But just for the purposes of being informed, the British tax dollars that go to the Royal Family is actually a salary paid in exchange for keeping the profits from the lands owned by the monarchs. Britain pays 40 Million Pounds to the Royals in exchange for 200 Million Pounds of Profit from the Royals land. After paying for the Royals, England makes 160 Million Pounds in profit on that land every year.

And they are a huge part of Britain's tourism industry. The Royal Family brings much more to England's coffers than they take, by far. Getting rid of them would end up costing the tax payers. I think having a monarch is silly, but from a purely financial standpoint, they are a huge money maker for England.
Wow... I had no idea that they brought in that much money to the tourism industry. I guess it is well worth it then.

Yes.

The royal family bring in many thousands of times more revenue than they are compensated.

Besides, it's England......our "royal family" aka the Obama's, just take.

What I find really annoying is how those government pensions build up.

If you have a guy who is mayor, and then a state senator, then governor, then a US Senator and then a Secretary of State, he will receive a separate government paid pension for each of those positions for life in most cases.

Lets think of it this way, Prince William and Kate arrived in the US for their 2 day tour on a scheduled British Airways flight, they brought 7 aides and security with them.

Obama on his recent visit to Brisbane flew on Airforce 1, another 747 also accompanied with his 90+ strong entourage and yet another with his presidential vehicles. Over 4,000 rooms were booked by his entourage at a cost of $1.7million.

The young royals are aware of the costs of an overseas visits and do their part to keep the prices down, meanwhile on this side of the Atlantic we have a child with a check book who doesn't think twice before spending American tax payers money.

I never bought into this. But they're beloved celebrities and icons.
Isn't our President doing the same thing? Not to mention all the other hired hands in Washington?

Lightbulb Are you fine with Prince William and Kate Middleton living off tax payers money?

As long as it's the Brits' tax money, what they do with and/or about their royalty is really of no concern to anyone else.

Relax.

I like the young prince and wife. Cutest baby to come along in decades. It is their system of gov, their business. They don't behead or stone to death women at least.
