If you are declared "mentally ill" at age 18 and are cured at age 30, how do you get a ban from purchasing a gun removed from your record?

Under current state law, the only cases Oklahoma sends to the federal system are people who have been forcibly committed. Hume did not meet that criteria, according to police.
is this the same in other states? i assume it is.

I am guessing that the only reason why these cases are submitted to a Federal system is because the facility is probably getting a subsidy to care for them from the Federal government.

If he has a history of being violent why is he on the streets in the first place?

So what do you think.... Should every gun buyer need to have a battery of tests to make sure they are competent to own a gun or drive a car ?

Maybe either a Doctors note ? What happens if the doctor is wrong ? Is he liable ?

Maybe we just ban and confiscate all guns from private citizens

Well, how do you plan on stopping the "mentally ill" from getting guns? I am a very productive member of society- have a degree in Economics and currently working on my second university degree. I was at my last job for 3 years and have nothing but good references from my boss. I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 18.

How would you stop someone like me from getting guns? I tried to join the military and I changed my mind just before they wanted me to sign the contract- I could have gone, joined and they would have never known that I have been diagnosed with a "mental illness".

I am afraid that more than half of the population in this country have some type of "mental illness"- a lot of them look and act normal. If you talked to me, you would never suspect that I am "mentally ill"

The doctor that diagnosed you as being bipolar would probably have to do more follow up testing of your condition and then check some box on a form for "no guns". You would then have to petition the courts and bear the cost to have this flag removed from your record.

Another option the gun-grabbers might use is that anyone applying to purchase a gun must submit a waiver from a doctor that you have been cleared. The waiver will only be good for five years.

To get my conceal carry permit, I had to submit a form that showed that I attended a firearm safety course. They did not have to prove that I did not attend one. The burden of compliance and expense fell on me as the applicant.

Doctors are very unlikely to agree with doing that.

Something tells me the review board from ObamaCare will soon require it.
