I understand a woman needing some time off, especially if a complication occurred or a c-section was needed. It does not however put you above and beyond what a man who had bypass surgery, a hip or knee replacement etc...
If he's back to work, she should be too. If they choose to take a maternity or a medical leave of absence and a year off, it should be without pay. That's what unemployment is for.
The bulk of our paid leave IS paid for by unemployment insurance.
Our leaves are available equally to mothers and fathers. I really don't care how they split it up between themselves.
That being said, longer leaves make for happier, healthier and more stable families.
I thought that the "family values" crowd would be supportive of more stable families, but I guess i was mistaken.
