The market itself determines what Walmart can get away with. The more options their employees have, the better for them.
Note: I do not think the market is always, 100% of the time, the solution.

The bold is exactly my point, the market said for years that wal mart could get away with sub 8 dollar wages.
At one point, when jobs were scarce, they could pick and choose who to hire. The market no longer allows that, but they will still be paying less than their competitors.

And if they hadn't been working at Walmart then when the economy was in worse shape they'd likely have not been working at all. I noted that earlier and the variation in what the market will bear is precisely why it's most efficient for the market to handle this.
What Wal Mart pays is up to them but I did get a chuckle.

This translates to annual pay of $15,576, based upon Walmart’s full-time status of 34 hours per week1. This is significantly below the 2010 Federal Poverty Level of $22,050 for a family of four. The Wall Street Journal reported that the average Walmart cashier makes just $8.48 an hour, far below the $11.22 national average for all cashiers.
How many employee's are only making $7.25? Probably very few if any so he pretty much said nothing but people will cheer like they accomplished something.
It just depends which Walmart...
To start here, Walmart is paying $15 and hour with full benefits and a 401K.
Double the states minimum wage law.

See, thats what i mean.
The market allows Wal Mart to pay lower wages, but that has nothing to do with whether Wal Mart can pay more or not.

"Can" doesn't mean "will." Also, are you not aware that people spend less (though perhaps not at Walmart) when the economy is worse?
