Because there are democrats in every state. Because those who believe they are entitled to government support don't base where they live on whether their state is RED or BLUE. Because takers from the government are less likely to vote? Who know, who cares. The fact is, our nation cannot sustain itself when there are more takers than there are earners.
We haven't had a problem sustaining even with the wars in the ME, and the refusal to raise taxes or to have "meaningful" cuts will impact us in the future. The disability programs in Kentucky will not break the budget but the DOD most certainly will.
Still seems irrational for these people to not vote.
Anybody from NJ has NO credibility in talking about other states.
Of course a personal attack rather than a cohesive argument says a lot about you. If you don't want to believe reality, that's on you. But it has nothing to do with NJ or any of the other productive states.
Actually, your post is a great demonstration about the laziness and lack of productivity that has caused the Southern states to be in such a bad state.
Voting bloc of poor folks hardly ever votes, especially in the South. The fact is Southern states voters vote based on the religion of the candidate rather than their economic policy positions. If Zombie Reagan showed up and said he was a Muslim, he wouldnt get 10% of the vote.
I wonder how much of it is people not voting compared to gerrymandering to break up any chances that low income voters might have at changing anything in their states.

This is an entire county where 66% are on medicaid, yet 70% of the county went republican. That 66% number is pretty astonishing in itself but I don't see this as Gerrymandering. It does no appear these people vote at all, the medicaid vote alone could have carried the county.

The 66 percent of Owsley County that gets health coverage through Medicaid now must reconcile itself with the 70 percent that voted for Republican Governor-elect Matt Bevin, who pledged to cut the state's Medicaid program and close the state-run Kynect health insurance exchange.
People from Red states realize that giving people checks for not working is not good for them and vote against doing so. So the population in Red states that wants those checks take them to their detriment in the long run if they become dependent on welfare rather than their work product. Blue staters (like my state) are enablers.
"Red" states have higher proportion of blacks. This is true even in the rural areas - something you won't see in the "blue" states. This population is the majority of people on government assistance and they vote for the party of welfare.

Welll that is not the case at all, at least not in Kentucky, Maine and WV, they do not vote at all.

You're going to be pretty disappointed if you go to Oregon, Maine, the Ozarks, central Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Appalachia in general, expecting to see black people.

And that county has gotten deeper and deeper red with every election as the poverty has worsened.

And you will be disappointed expecting to see many people on welfare in these regions. Retirement and veteran benefits are not government assistance, but earned money belonging to the recipients and held by the government as a trustee.
