Today, my two daughters and I will be dropping off a plate of Christmas cookies at the local police department as a "Thank You" for doing what they do.
Right now, the media is making the police the enemy and I'm fed up with it. The officers need to know they're appreciated by the 99% of the public who aren't criminals.

You have it backwards, it is the 99% who are criminals. They are all guilty of the cover up of abuses even if they do not commit them themselves. Accomplices are guilty by association and the lying and cover-ups in law enforcement are rampant as investigations in LA and NY have proven.
I like the idea, but with the attitudes people have toward police right now, your thoughtful gift will probably most likely end up in the trash, as they don't know you from Adam and they don't know what your intentions are. A pre-packaged treat, such as a box of candy or something, would probably be a better alternative.
"On behalf of the Covington Police Department and an anonymous Secret Santa, here's $100," Spinks told Williams and other drivers before they drove away from his traffic stop. "Merry Christmas."

I already thought of that and called the police station to ask if they'd accept the homemade cookies and was told "absolutely, we'd love them"

I wish I had thought about that. Maybe next year, if I remember. What a wonderful idea.
I donate money to Semper Fi fund and wounded warrior project.
As a retailer, I think I have done enough for local police department.
but that just isn't the same. We too, donate to many including the needy kids in the area and police drives and fund raisers, but that isn't like taking them a special Thank You on Christmas eve.
