Here we go again only speaking from a racial prospective. Of course morality was better back then and so were many other things aside from race. Geez, I give up. I can't get my point across no matter what.
Maybe it's because the way people look at that time is highly influenced by their race and their sex. You are a white male, so, yeah, for you there wouldn't have been anything hindering your progress, safety or happiness. For blacks and women or, like residinghere2007, a black woman, things were radically different and measurably worse. There is nothing about those times that would have been worth living in for us.
The problem today is that many Americans have been brainwashed into the liberal, progressive mindset which includes an "anything goes" attitude so the morals are not as good today nor are family values. Back then one's family could survive on one income. Today both parents have to work to support the family. Now I have nothing against women working but it does affect the time that they spend with their children. One didn't need a college education to get a good paying job unless they wanted to become a doctor, etc. One doesn't always have a choice in today's world in regards to that. Again, this is not about the racism back then but about all the positives that there were. You and a lot of other posters in here have just zeroed in on that particular negative over and over.
Families can survive on one income today as well. The difference is people enjoy having more for their family than just the basics and many women desire to have a career :-P.
And for the love of God, you people need to stop lying to yourself in saying "morality was better back then..."
