I would like a mixture both.
The supposed ease of how life sounded in the '46-'64 era, minus all the racial conflict and anger.

Perhaps that should be the precedent for the future, because some of us are typically driven to anger due to challenges thrown up in front of us.

And as for the comment about time travel and being white, I'd personally be more afraid of dropping dead from the smell when stepping out of the time machine!!

What caught my attention is the "imagine (g) living in", in your par for the course, angry black man rant. Sounds like you have no direct experience. Its an opinion, just not valid, as it requires dependence on hearsay, reimagined history, and a certain political slant. A few anecdotal retold tales tossed in for good measure, some of which had a basis in reality, most of which did not.

Yeah, you're a real good commentator on what is and is not.

Lemme repeat..."ARE SOME" of the worst years.

Again...ARE SOME...

Now what would you infer from the two words "are some," genius?

Agreed. Too; I was born after that time so I don't have any personal memories, good or bad.

That was the golden age for Detroit.

I would not want to live in those times again. Yes, they seem ideal, but I was born in 1951, so I was a kid until 1964. Kids always see things as pure and simple.

I would not want to relive the Kennedy, King, and Kennedy assasinations. I would not want to live in a time when my goal in life was to become a 'garbage man' (LOL) but I realized I couldn't do that because I was female and those were men's jobs. That really depressed me.

I would not want to perpetually live in a time when a female's only option was to marry and have children and make sure there was a hot meal on the table at 6pm. When I watched movies on TV, I would always look at the credits and took note that the only female credit in that long list was Edith Head, who designed...geez, I forget now, hair? makeup? There were no female directors, producers, grips, best-boys, cameraMEN, etc. That gave me a strong message that women could not do those jobs.

I would not want to live in a time when minorities were looked down upon as somehow less than human. 'Nuff said about that.

My reading passion was and still is Science Fiction. No way would I go back in time! I'm gonna hang on until I get my flying car and we have colonies on other planets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although the past had its problems and wasn't ideal I would take it anyday over the direction that our country is headed right now.

Like a number of others, I'm for moving on. It was halfway through that "idyllic" time until there was a vaccine for polio (1954). I am glad I didn't have to worry about my kids getting it. Ditto measles, mumps, rubella, hib and many more. (The rubella vaccine was tested on my nursing class back in 1968.) Like all ages, life was easier, life was harder. It will always be that way.

My opinion that the past was better was not based on the lack of medical advances back then. Of course today, is a better time for healthcare.

Don't be so sure. I don't see much difference between the two, actually.

I did make a comment to my wife one time that I should've been born in the
60's and she was like "why, so women are more oppressed?" I really just
wanted a time where being a white male didn't mean you were an *******
automatically, but I get it. It's a lot more privileged that I ever
understood.
It's not that way now. White males are not automatically *******s. But they do enjoy more advantages and privilege than anyone else in American society.
