Because it is a lie. Obama spoke at and attended the 42nd anniversary of the 1965 march in Selma. Tens of thousands attended including some NBP members. Don't stretch and twist the truth. It's not the same as being invited to speak at a EURO meeting.

Speaking of lies, who was "invited to speak at a EURO meeting?"
Knight denied being a member of Euro, but state records have him as the treasurer of the organization, and we know now that he was undoubtedly a close adviser to David Duke.
Knight, the source for the "hoax" story, is a liar. He was a member of the organization, he was its treasurer. David Duke says that he asked Knight to call up Scalise and ask him to come to the conference to update them on state affairs, and Scalise obliged.

None of that indicates that he spoke to the Euro group.
Does that matter to you or not?
1. He already apologized for doing it, which would indicate he did it.
2. His alibi (every story you linked to) is completely based upon the statements of Knight, who lied and was a member of the organization and close adviser to David Duke (I notice the right wing propaganda blogs haven't updated their stories, I guess that's what you get when you make them your primary news source).
3. David Duke says he was there, and says he asked Knight to invite him there.
4. The story originates because of at least one eyewitness who recalled him speaking at the event.
How many contortions will you perform to defend the guy because he's got the (R) after his name?
This is going to go down similar to the liberal meme of 'Bush lied about WMD.' That meme has been obliterated. Even Saddam's own senior officers were convinced that he still had WMD right up to 2003.
Now there is no evidence that Scalise even spoke to this racist group, but liberals will continue to spread the lie. Some are duplicitous ('willful ignorance') and some are just useful idiots ('just plain ignorance'). It can be hard to tell the difference.
the testimony of Rep. Cedric L. Richmond, the African-American Democrat who represents the congressional district based in New Orleans. "Steve doesn't have a racist bone in his body," said Richmond, using what was once a favorite line of Ronald Reagan. Richmond's urban 2nd District lies cheek by jowl beside Scalise's suburban-exurban 1st, and the two are mirror reversals of race: Nearly two-thirds of Richmond's constituents are black; more than three-fourths of Scalise's are white. The racial divide is more lopsided here than anywhere else in Louisiana. But as it happens, Richmond and Scalise have been friends since they served together in the Legislature through most of the past decade. This was the hour when Scalise needed a friend, and Richmond was there.
