Occupy was unorganized and unfocused, but there was truth in their core message: That Wall Street was playing by a different set of rules than the rest of America, and it was to the country's detriment. Most people, both liberal and conservative, agreed with that.
Even right winger Bill O'Reilly has been critical of the Wall Street operators and big investment banks like Goldman Sachs that almost brought down the entire financial system. And then they get bailed out by the U.S. taxpayers. Wall Street's motto: "socialise risk, privatise profits".

No they failed because Occupy was literally the protest and the protest only, there was no organization or organizing, no leader, no infrastructure. Those who spread the word about it wanted it to be truly organic and it was, but without any organization, it faded.
How would a social movement know if they will fail? The Civil Rights Movement could've said they had no chance of succeeding but in many respects they did. They underestimated their opponent: a corrupt 2 party system with 2 conservative parties and a propaganda spewing corporate media. They had no powerful allies and evil will always succeed when there is no one strong willing to do right.

Organized movement or not, the protesters should have though a little bit more about what they were doing, when and where they were doing it. Of the "99%" almost 90% are working to make a living, and do not appreciate being prevented from getting to work, get home from work, have their vehicle or business vandalized by a movement that truly represents only the bottom 5%, not the 99%. The rest of us, in one way or another, depend on Wall Street whether we want to admit it or not.

Exactly. Those points crossed partisan lines, at least for most average Americans. However, after a while, without any real organization, the movement faded.
US protests are so lame. It was called occupy wall street, but in reality they occupied a park on the other side of town? Yeah, really going to make a difference there.
Just goes to show how much of a totalitarian police state the US is. Too bad wall street wasn't literally occupied and burnt to the ground. That would have been cool.

i can go along with this.

no, that was the method they used to try and get their point across, and in that they failed.

even with good organization, they would have failed, and the reason for that failure was the perception of the occupy movement. they were seen as trespassers, dope smokers, moochers, and violent when they didnt get what they wanted.
the other thing they did was overstay their welcome massively. the people were willing to listen what the occupy movement had to say, for a couple of weeks. but at some point the occupy movement needed to pack up and go home, and clean up after themselves, instead they continued to "occupy" public places, and impede the general public from enjoying those spaces, as well as creating an eyesore.
it was the movement itself that caused the failure, and no amount of organization would have helped them after a point when there was no decorum observed by the occupy movement.
