The forces in Afghanistan will drop to 10,000 this year, half that in 2016. The support for the war has ebbed an flowed the last few years between democrats and republicans alike mainly influenced by the terrorists in Iraq.
Time to go????

After falling to record lows, support for the Afghanistan war has
risen since 2013, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll that also finds
majority support for a plan to keep thousands of troops in the country in the coming year.
Overall, Americans remain downbeat over the war at the end of NATO’s 13-year combat mission. A 56 percent majority says it has not been worth fighting, continuing a negative streak that dates to
2010 in Post-ABC polls. But 38 percent in the new survey say the war was worth the costs, up eight points from December 2013 and 10 points from a record low that July (28 percent).
Like most Americans I supported the war effort in Afghanistan initially but it was squandered through **** poor management by the Bush and Obama administrations. The Bush administration really screwed the pooch when they listened to the chickenhawk neocons and invaded Iraq. Trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives wasted.
Was it a war?? I am confused... I define a war as 2 combatants with different views fighting for?? the game if chess is a battle the end game is check mate.. In Afghanistan what was the end game? The US went there to impose its will and the Afghan's were simply defending themselves.
The sad is, how many US soldier died? and where did they die? In a foreign country that they were not invited to. How many Afghan's died? and dies because they were simply defending their sovereignty. So Russia invade Ukraine...
"Even with the agreement, the United States is poised to wind down its military involvement in Afghanistan.
Obama has said that under the security agreement, virtually all U.S. forces would be out of Afghanistan by the end of 2016, shortly before his presidency ends.
He has called for 9,800 U.S. troops to stay there after the end of 2014, along with some allied forces. The number would get cut roughly in half by the end of 2015, and a year later, the U.S. military presence would scale down to what officials described as a "normal" embassy security contingent.
Meanwhile, the Taliban, who were ousted from power in Afghanistan by a U.S.-led military coalition in 2001, have continued to mount deadly attacks on high-profile Afghan targets and are fighting fiercely for control of important areas in the country."
We never should've had more than some spec ops guys in there to take out Bin Laden. After enough time elapsed whether we found him or not, we should've left and been done with the place.
The United States can't subdue Afghanistan no matter how long we stay there.
The problem remains security, I have a lot more faith in the Afghan Army than Iraq but controlling the countryside is difficult because of the size. Kabul has changed quite a bit since 2001 but the country has a long way to go. We actually have less troops there now than we have in Iraq. Pakistan needs to address the Taliban that set up camp in their country.

I was a teenager when all of this started, age 15. I will turn 29 in April. Anytime after 2001, I don't remember a time when we weren't talking about Afghanistan or Iraq. This is like my generation's version of the Vietnam War, only longer.
