Seriously? Poor people in Mississippi do NOT have a good quality of life.

Tell me how eating squirrel, being unemployed (note - Mississippi refused federal stimulus funds), living in a rusting trailer or cabin with no indoor plumbing, illiteracy rates at 15% or more for adults mean that these folks have a higher quality of life than those in the blue states.

Shelby, MS is one of the poorest communities in the United States, over half the population is unemployed, half the population is living in poverty, the average life expectancy is the lowest in the US, around 68 years (below Guatemala, and above North Korea), average GDP per capita per year is $6,000-8,000, is close to that of China or Angola. Literacy rates are at 37-42% (as low as Sierra Leone or Mozambique) and only around 8% of the population has completed collage. That this exists today in the United States of America is unacceptable. Forget the wars, help our 3rd world communities at home.

Summary of article:
Blue states are more urban, red states more suburban/rural.
Housing costs more in urban areas.
Therefore red state residents have more disposable income.

The OP is about to tear a muscle with all the stretching he's doing.

Yeah...being trailer trash is better in Okkahma than in Wisconsin.

Great...something all of our Red State pals should be proud of.

Unreal. SMH

Adjusted for COL, the average household in Mississippi has more disposable income than the average household in California.

Except for the part where COL is irrelevant to disposable income, as disposable income is AFTER COL.....

BTW Misssisipi disposable income is 31,831, while Californians have 41,065.

I don't know about that, I remember watching a documentary about the poorest regions in Mississippi and they interviewed the principal of the local elementary school. He said he had students who didn't even know what their last names were, didn't know colors and shapes and could barely name the days of the week. In another a scene a social worker was checking up on two kids living in a dilapidated trailer with their grandmother. Roaches and bugs were all over the place and the social worker told the camera it wasn't the worst of what she'd seen. The level of poverty was shocking.

Sure. But then you'd have to actually LIVE in Mississippi.

That extra money ain't worth it.

LOL.

Let's just say I thought poverty in New York was bad until I traveled through Appalachia. My freaking goodness. It made the "hood" in New York look reasonable.
