Hard to believe how much hostility this young fellow has for the US. He was born Adam Pearlman and raised in California, growing up in a hippie like environment on a goat farm.

What is even more strange is that Adam Yahiye Gadahn or Adam Pearlman is the grandson of Carl Pearlman, was a prominent surgeon and on the Board of Directors of the Anti-Defamation League with whom he lived with until he was 17.

He wandered from the "death metal music scene" to Christianity, then a year later converted to Islam in 1996.

What is most strange is not that the grandson of a prominent member of the Anti-Defamation league who went from death metal to evangelical Christianity then to later embrace radical fundamentalist Islam but that a group like Al Qaeda would seek support or membership from such a person. One would think that an international terrorist organization might be reluctant to recruit such a person.

Odd indeed.

He was raised in the classic ultra-leftist environment where all questions have no answers. As a young man, it appears that he was left flapping in the wind without any direction or guidance from his parents and eventually found Islam to fill the void (to fill this void, some people join street gangs, some people join cults, some people find religion)

IIRC, John Walker Lindh aka "Taliban Johnny" was from a similar background.

Probably because they can use him as a propaganda tool. Poor kid....his Daddy probably never took him out for ice cream...sheesh...yet another nut swinging by the puppeteer strings of Usama Bin Laden

It may be just that simple, I don't know.

However Al Qaeda is presented to us by our media and government as this all encompassing legion of evil so dangerous, so vile, so elusive (as to denote intelligent) that it requires the United States to spend vast sums of money, engage with several hundred thousand troops and support personel, establishment of entire military cities within an occupied nation. So why if Al Qaeda is this sharp and dangerous would they risk recruiting a man whose grandfather is the head of one of the most powerful Jewish organizations in the world, has indulged in a lifestyle that any devout Muslim would see as depraved (black metal music cultist), or has dabbled in evangelical Christianity, all of this just a few years prior?

It just stinks to high heaven and makes little logical sense. One might conclude that Al Qaeda is not all our government claims it to be, or Adam Pearlman is merely some media manifestation of the latest boogyman come to gobble us up. In either case, it is completely illogical.
