This doesn't belong in the illegal immigration forum. These aren't illegal aliens. They are asylum seekers.

Oh really now?

So let's say 10 thousand show up all at once. Will you still call them "asylum seekers?"

You know the answer.

The tens of thousands of Central American kids and moms who showed up at the border last year are asylum seekers.

Yeah, but for some people, the difference between who is an asylum seeker and who's an illegal immigrant has more to do with whether or not you come from a group they like.

Cubans= considered good for some strange reason (that strange reason is that they'll eventually become Republicans...or so folks think.

Mexicans, Hatians, other Central Americans= bad...likely to become Democrats (in some folks' minds).

It has little to do with reality.

Cubans are economic refugees. Simply put.

Guess the Castros aren't as warm and fuzzy as the Obama's believe, If we're going to use the military to protect the borders I wish the coast guard would leave these political refugees alone and use the army to stem the flood from Mexico.

Who else should the Coast Guard just "leave alone" on the high seas...or is that olive branch exclusively for Cubans?

So we should only secure certain portions of the border... from certain types of people entering without papers... or from people who get here by certain means.

If Mexicans or South Americans can find a way to raft in would they also get a free pass? And people physically at risk in Mexico are bad but people economically at risk in Mexico are bad? And the Castros are somehow worse than Chavez was???

FWIW- why does no one complain about the Canadian border. That's the one terrorists are more likely to exploit.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Cuban poverty is state imposed poverty, not economic misfortune. When Mexican doctors risk their lives to get into the US, then you can get back to me.

I would make a case for Haitians to be eligible for Wet Foot, Dry Foot though. Mexicans and Central Americans? No

Terrorists have no reason to enter the U.S. illegally. No reason to fly into say Mexico City and make their way to the U.S.

A terrorist can fly in, present a valid passport and visa and be on their way.

Or so they said. Many of them admitted that they were drawn to the U.S. because of Obama's promise of amnesty. Many of them weren't kids either. We have no category for economic asylum and rightly so. I don't favor any one group over another. In fact "wet foot, dry foot" for Cubans should have ended long ago.
