And what people here define as far left is laughble, i think it is mostly based on them being in a bubble and believing they are in the "Middle".
I agree on the wild definitions, but I think they're repeating what they hear. There's a lot of group-think going on...well, actually that's an overstatement. It's more like backslapping at a sporting event. That certainly does put them in a bubble.
To the OP: I was raised in the '60s and '70s, and much of what was mainstream conservatism back then, is absent today. Back then, conservatism was personified by William F. Buckley. Today, it's Rush Limbaugh. Quite an intellectual chasm. Firing Line ran for 33 years and was classified as a public service show, which it was. Limbaugh is called an entertainer. Quite a shift in what people consider "middle." There are certainly intellectual conservatives - Rand Paul comes to mind - but the leadership seems severely lacking. I miss Colin Powell, Condolezza Rice, and even some I disagreed with like Tom Ridge.
I'm a gun owner and fully support gun ownership. I agree with gun rights advocates that our attempts to curb violence through regulation have been futile, but I don't think we should stop looking for solutions.
I believe in equality. That's a broad statement, but I believe it's a broad founding principle of this country.
I support business and labor.
I support Americans, but I welcome newcomers.
I believe government's authority is that which we give it. We do this directly with every vote, and indirectly with every dollar we spend. It seems we get the government we ask for.
Politically, I haven't voted Republican since Bob Dole. I don't know if this makes me liberal, but these are some of my positions.
Why do people have to have a simple label that supposedly dictates and defines all their behavior? Seems silly to me. Life is far more complicated than a simple binary decision. i.e. Liberal vs Conservative.
I didn't vote in the poll because the OP didn't define what they meant by "liberal".
I'm a philosophical anarchist. I don't believe the state has any fundamental moral legitimacy, which places me at odds with American liberals right out of the gate. However, in practical terms I normally find myself in common cause with liberals and Democrats simply because their opponents are so absolutely vile--at least on the issues I consider most important.
Liberal only to the extent that I feel like the mainstream right has moved to the far right and doesn't even realize it.
Absolutely sick of all these 'tough guy' conservatives and their bad a$$ gun toting selves.
There was a time when the cause de jour liberal (whales, Tibet, no nukes, baby harp seal, Peta) was more annoying than the John Birch/conspiracy theorist right wing nut. Not anymore.
Not trying to start a (perhaps inevitable) flame war, just genuinely curious. It seems the posters and threads here lean moderately to extremely conservative. I've always considered myself a moderate liberal, but after reviewing some threads here, I'm fairly certain I'd be pegged as far-left. I'm in favor of gay marriage, abortion, diversity, marijuana legalization, stem cell research, affirmative action, the recent police accountability movement, Obama, etc. If this makes me far left, so be it, but I would love to engage in intelligent discussions on here without resorting to name calling. Is this even possible in this political climate?
So, are you a liberal? If so, care to espouse some of your positions?
I am not a "liberal," but I agree with several liberal positions like having a national health care system, better gun control measures, etc.

And what people here define as intelligent discourse is laughable, I think it is mostly based on them being in a bubble and believing they are on the "left" when really they are just party liners that defend lies, flip flops, lie themselves, support Bush policies that they supposedly opposed - if Obama does them, etc for party gain.
