TY, I know it seems heartless to some, and the ACLU and everyoen screams they have rights, but I feel, think and firmly believe, they lost that right when they chose to not walk away and instead commited that crime.
Very few if any on death row are innocent and quite a few are repeat offenders that progresively became worse as they got older, crimes they commited became more grave. At some point, there is the realization that the criminal is that, a criminal. The ceased many years before to follow the basic common rules of society.
Peopel tell me all the time I am to harsh in my standing. However I do firmly believe that if we killed a few more inmates on death row a year, as in 90 days of being sentenced far fewer crimes would be commited, I doubt the criminals would think, well lets just kill the victim now and deal with it later, Now I ask you, with criminals realizing they are not going out live out thier days in solitary cushy death row, it may make them realize as they see the criminals around them dropping like flies, a little fear in the soul, that it is over, there ar eno more second or third chances.-there isw no solitary, no TV, Books or bible... I think being in prision and reading a bible is hypocritial! you go into prision and your days are numbered.
Here is how I see it. Everyone is in the court rooom, sentencing is handed down, Death. People cry, people cheer the lawyer looks at his client says* Thank you very much sorry you lost, shakes hands and clears of the desk and walks outs. Judge tells the criminal you are back to prision to await your death date you have 90 days waiting. No Appeals, you are no longer a citizen of society, basically and outcast. Done. Over. 90-days thats one less person in prision we are feeding, clothing and paying for medical care.
When has it become that the criminals have more rights then those they have harmed? Very few people these days are wrongly incarcerated, what we hear are from 10-20-30 years ago when DNA wasnt so readily available. And why is it that most of us can get up everyday, and many of us had bad childhoods, maybe some poverty, and we are different colour, religion and upbringing.. and yet we manage to go to work, pay our bills and respect our family and neighbors and never get into trouble with the law except for a speeding or parking ticket now and again, and we pay them, AND most of us freak and hate traffic school but we go.
SO what if they are innocent?!!??that is the best peopel can come up with to stop death sentencing? Show me a guy on death row that is innocent, truly truly innocent of some horrendous crime.
There are no more what if's these days. I say Capital punishment needs to be handed down, quickly and within the means of the State providing the sentence. And when I die- Then God can judge me for my harsh feelings. Until then I stand firmly on push the damn button and move on to the next one.
You speak my mind... every word of it.
I would like expand on the "what if they are innocent?" argument... That is a risk that MUST be accepted. If you think there is a perfect system, you are completely wrong. Perfection is not even known to man yet people expect it from such a complex system. Innocent people have been wronged and will continue to be wronged get that through all of your thick skulls. You wanna keep innocent people from dying?... Terminate/disable the wicked people, they aren't your friends and they threw most of if not all of their humanity in the garbage at this point in their career.
A lot of you are also harping on "focus on the victim not the perpetrator". What in the hell do you even mean by this???? Focus on and provide what? Picking out a nice little coffin for an 8 yr old? Giving guns to rape victims? Teaching people how to talk someone out of robbing your house??? Your suggestion is weak and completely open ended.
And again I must suggest the gallows. It will cut down on execution costs dramatically... its not cruel and it certainly isn't unusual since humans have used it their entire existence. However gallows will never see their fair share of necks if death row continues to move at this glacial pace...
You missed the point . The point was that the victim and their families have a greater right to justice than the criminal.
I think someone already pointed out how that can be flawed--justice really starts being about revenge rather than retribution.
Quote:
The criminal by their choice to be a criminal should forfiet the right to be considered a human being. A human being a rational thinking animal that understands that there are laws and it is those laws that seperate humans from the rest of the animal kingdom.
Personally, I don't want to live in a country or world where lives are worth less because of guilt. Seems I don't really have any feasible, sensible alternatives at the moment, though. But that's me.

Personally I dont want to live in a country where the convicted criminal is treated like a victim. I will say here and now that a convicted (Guilty) murderer's life is in fact worth less than the law abiding citizen's. I will say that a bank robbers, or child molestor's or a rapist's life is worth considerably less than any law abiding persons life. A criminals life is worth less than the average house pets. Why? Because criminals intentionally target those they deem weak and with no regard what so ever for anyone else.

If they're already getting death, why would you be offended if letha injection or another method of execution is used? The sterilizing of needles and all the other different measures are not for the sake of the criminal---its is for the sake of maintaining our dignity and civility as a society...to prove that though we do provide retribution to heinous acts, we are a step above barbaric cavemen.

But what death? Life in prison? In a hotel complete with college education, work out equipment etc? They may loose the freedom to prey upon the weak of society but by no means is it a punishment to fit the crime.
I am no fan of lethal injection. A 45 acp to the back of the head is quicker and cheaper.
This is a followup on my original question LETHAL INJECTION ETC: Jan 08 2008 QUOTE; Chief Justice Antonin Scalia was the most outspoken in defense of the LETHAL INJECTION procedure, and said arguments about which procedure would cause the least amount of PAIN were beside the point. "Where does this come from, that....in the execution of a persom who has been convicted of killing people we must choose the least painful method possible? Is that somewhere in our Constitution?" SCALIA asked. He said at another point, "This is an execution, not surgery". Chief JUSTICE JOHN ROBERTS JR, and JUSTICE SAMUEL ALITO JR, also seemed skeptical of claims on behalf of inmates that they were seeking only a humane method of execution. As for me personally, there was no HUMANE KILLING involved in the creation of their crime. Steve

And who's going to be the one who cleans up the ooey-gooey mess? You?
This is why people have life sentences---because the cost of cleaning up a body and the execution process now costs more than housing an inmate for life. And how would you know what the crime was with just one sweeping statement? The decision to send someone to death row or a mental hospital is a matter of one jury vote. Who would qualify for being shot in the back of the head vs lethal injection/another method? Rapists? murderers? Manslaughters? Armed Robbery? Who's to judge how savage we can be?
As a society, we should be moving forward in progress rather than moving back. I've said this many times now.
Of course main stream people get upset that lethal injection is painful because it is human nature to not want to intentinally cause harm to others under most circumstances, and we wince when we see that pain.
However I must remind you it is not beneath the rest of us to remember and set aside these feelings when dealing with an irrational person. Box A is sadness we must put to death another human being for crime they commited. Box B- They get what has been deemed necessary in order to set the balance straight.
I am very sorry, and a few of of you might get offended at this next comment--- BUT-some feel it holier and mighter to forgive thier abuser, that the grace of God will somehow give kudos when they themselves die, as if it is a grand gesture of sorts to forgive the criminal that took the life of thier child, wife, husband, elder. So that is them and maybe it does thier soul good to forgive and perhaps God does look favorable towards them for this gesture.
But the rest of us are staring at the TV saying OMG are kidding me! You are forgiving this person for killing or hurting your loved one?!
Uh-huh- no way... I do not forgive. that type of behavior there is no reward so great to me that I will forgive someone for hurting my child or loved one. SOrry but that criminal better be thankful they are even in court and safe until sentensing for there is no greater motivation to see justice done then to have death presented to the person that caused you the greatest grief your body has ever known that there is nothing that can every make right!! hte pain stop or the tears dry. everyday your loved one is gone, you miss them.
But with that said.... the fact that --that criminal is no longer contributing to our Global Warming problems by breathing and leaving a carbon footprint-- I do believe that makes something right with the world! Consider it my little way of recycling.
ooey --gooey mess? obviously you have not seen plastic painters tarp.
less mess, less cleanup- paupers grave. Sigh once again, we are not moving forward or backwards we are standing right still. The fact that we are not using the hanging or fireing squad THAT change has cost us way more to execute because people deamed it in human to shoot or hang. So now we give them drugs, to help them sleep, feel no pain and cause a heart attack... or electrocute them.... in some states...
I say stick to hanging and shooting, less mess, less money, less les less.
Oh and punishment befitting the crime-- the inmate gets to choose his way out....to meet his method of death. Hanging or fireing squad.
