Only if it were voted upon and then it would be ok because that is democracy!

Let's not play games. He was fired because of the passages about homosexuality in the book, not for handing out a book.

Over the line would be mandating that employees read the book, or testing them on it, or requiring discussion groups, stuff like that.

His beliefs and writing about homosexuality are massively PI, so his proven professional qualifications over many years of service were discarded to please the 'hate speech' police.

Funny, because the article I linked to says that the book was given to his superior about a year before the firing, and that he was fired AFTER the complaint from employees that he gave the book to. Maybe if he hadn't handed his book out at work he would still be employed.

Sounds like a good idea. Anyone who learns your ethnic background and thinks " Oh, now that I know you're not completely X, my opinion of you has improved and I am willing to treat you better, solely based on how you were born, not what you do" is screwed up.

Which is why I hate when people bring up that he's half white. He looks black, and racist aren't going to request a geneology test to validate their bigotry, they are just going to be bigoted. So rather than let them hide it, let the hateful expose themselves.

It should also be noted that the sources say Cochran ran his book by the ethics department at work and they reportedly gave him no reason to believe that its contents were cause for concern. It sounds to me like he may have been mislead by both them and the mayor.
