Have any of you read about liberal nationalism in Europe. In the US, we often associate nationalism with right-wing extremism. In Europe, however, some have the notion that liberalism can work only in homogeneous societies and not in multi-cultural ones. In Russia, there are white nationalist who are Marxist apologists. I believe the Greek Golden Dawn has a liberal platform.

Ultra-nationalism is a extreme right wing attribute... everywhere.

Actually, that notion is based not on liberal/progressive ideas but the roadblocks that right wingers create towards that end only because the right wing societies want single everything (religion, culture, skin color, ethnicity...).

Only if you stand to the right of the extreme right.

Please. This group is nothing like a liberal platform. Trying to compare them to liberals is just one way to try and compare liberal to neo-nazis. Its sad and pathetic.

A right wing movement. This ties back to this: "In Europe, however, some have the notion that liberalism can work only in homogeneous societies and not in multi-cultural ones". So, don't worry, I LOVE facts that happen to confuse those who think they might do the same to others.

Socialism in this sense wasn't for a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious society but completely opposite and all about total control. In general, extreme right wing is about socialism that is to control the populace to maintain a "singular society". You can see bits and pieces of this in right wing's opposition to social services in the USA... a key piece of their opposition is diversity. The more singular a society to their taste, the more open they are to "welfare". They get their panties twisted in a knot when the society is diverse.

Remember, Nazis hated communists so much that not Jews but Communists leaders were first victims of concentration camps. Jews were also promoted as enemy for being liberal/communists.

Liberal nationalism is generally something that I associate more with Latin America. Especially with the rise of anti-American leftist regimes like Chavez/Maduro, Evo Morales, Daniel Ortega, etc.

However, the Scottish National Party is officially socialist (though it does have a more moderate wing as well). That's one European example.

You just confirmed the linkage nationalism and liberalism in Europe. Thank you!

Actually, that wasn't my argument (see OP, which was quoted). That is, however, an argument why many right wingers argue that socialism can work in parts of Europe but cannot in USA (due to greater diversity).
