You are exactly right about that. Remember in the 60s if we the people did not like something then we would march and rant and holler and raise signs saying hooray for our side?
Back then the Government was afraid of we the people. They listened to us to some degree. Look at the numbers of Vietnam protesters back then as opposed to the few protesters protesting this fake illegal undeclared war today. Today we are all too busy working 2 jobs just to stay afloat. We have no time to take buses and fly away to the Big White House to march, Most of us get a couple free down time hours a day so we come on forums like this to protest, knowing damn well it goes no where.
Today we the people are afraid of the big bad Government. What happens to your heart rate when big bad Uncle Sam sends you a letter? What about the IRS? What about a cop pulling you over? Can we say it is now a totalitarian state? A police state? They have their foot on our necks and we cant get up.
And again you are right. This is a corrupted system.
Another important fact was that in the 60s the news media provided “information” about what was happening across the country. Today that isn’t happening. The protests and demonstrations then seemed to have value and meaning. Today few people have time to get involved and fewer people even get to know about it from the news media.
Today the war doesn’t bother so many American because their sons, fathers, brothers didn’t get drafted ~ they volunteered today for the service. This isn’t anymore right today then it was then, it’s only that it was protested then.
Our country is bankrupted because of the corrupt administration in office, and the system is broken to fix it. They took Nixon out of office then, but for some strange reason people today just can’t get it together as they did then.
We don't riot and take to the streets because we have to go to work instead. A strong working middle class is the best prevention against riots and radicalism.
In some countries people really have very little to lose and they aren't employed and working steady jobs like most of us are, they have a lot of time on their hands and are also more easily persuaded by radical leaders.
Plus many of us don't want anyone to be watching the news and see us out rioting.

Well said. There are WAY more of us than them and protests do and can make a difference. They still happen often in Europe. People can march locally and it will get news coverage. I wish there were more protests here. Maybe I should get on this?

They also have to work, i.e. people in France but, believe it or not, to some there are issues more important at stake. They are just willing to make the sacrifice. I am not speaking about third world countries; that is an entirely different matter.

Well in some countries they riot over soccer games.
Comparing with what the French might riot over doesn't work because we're a different kind of people. They didn't even seem to mind when thousands of their elderly died from heat because they couldn't even afford fans for them.

Huh? That's a stretch. That was an unheard-of heat wave and they ran out of fans.
And, yes, you agree with me; we are a different kind of people.
As to the soccer game, I believe that took place in England. If one did take place in France, it's not the kind of matter to which I speak. That riot was thoughtless, unplanned, spontaneous, of-the-moment. No comparison
