Duke has long been run by liberal morons. Didn't Duke kick Chik-Fil-A off campus because the owner is a Christian?
One would certainly acquire this perception based upon some sensational media reports.
Truth is that Duke made the business decision to cease hosting national fast food chains in their Event Pavillon, ONE YEAR before the Chick's SSM controversy.
It's not like other languages have different words for God, is it?
Your "cultural connotation" is bs.
"Allah" is a foreign word for "God", and Muslims worship the same God that Jews and Christians do, the God of Abraham.
You shouldn’t use such foul language.
I really don’t care how much you want to soft peddle this (this isn’t your first foray) it does not change the simple fact that when someone uses the word Allah when speaking English, they are decidedly NOT talking about the generic word for deity. They are very specifically speaking of the muslim understanding.
Culture means something. words mean things. Yes the aribic word for god is allah. that is also the only word used to speak of the god muslims in arabic worship. but we westerners are not native speakers of arabic. that word has a singular connotation.
Further if a muslim speaks the word "God" it is quite clear, they are NOT speaking of the generic concept. They are speaking of the god they believe in.
further further, we aren’t speaking about what other languages use for their word for god in the generic sense, nor what they mean when they are speaking specifically.
We are talking about the word Allah and the effort on the part of some (like you) to force the word allah on western culture in what appears to be an attempt to make islam less threatening.
not gonna work. I’m not ever going to accept the word allah as anything other than the very embodiment of the islamic governmental/religious structure that is currently attempting to foist itself on western secular society
That's what I'm wondering. It's a Methodist university with a Divinity School.
Yet it made the choice to be non- secretarian and accommodate all faiths.
It's a private school and can run their business as they see fit.
