I think, if you read the article, you would see that it's more about the LEFT spinning things there way than any change in Catholic Doctrine.

So basically, evil, degenerate, stupid liberals want the Pope to be liberal but all hardworking, intelligent, truthful conservatives know that the Pope is conservative.

Americanthinker is not a site for grown-ups, OP.

That was my impression, as well. I didn't see any "spinning" by the left. Who exactly is the left, anyway? The article begins by mentioning Damon Linker. Is he "the left?" Who the hell is Damon Linker? Here's his website: Home - DAMON LINKER He was a speechwriter for Giuliani. What a communist!

• Francis is simply saying what Catholic social doctrine teaches: man does not exist to serve the economy, or the government, either, for that matter; the economy (and government) exists to serve man. Choosing money over God is breaking the First Commandment. Morality and ethics need to be the foundation of any economic system, and we should all work together to help those in need.

• We have a moral obligation to try to be good stewards of a world that was given to us by God. So let’s put politics and cronyism and ideologies aside and try to figure out what really makes sense.

That is all good, and basic to all Christian denominations.

However, if the Pope is thought to be moving to the left, then it's probably because he appears to be embracing "social justice", which is entirely a progressive ideology.

I am a devout Catholic and I lean right and I will state neither party has the Catholic platform. The Republicans do in terms of social issues like abortion and gay marriage. However fiscally the church leans left in terms of economic equality and welfare. They believe in social justice (many Catholics were involved with the civil rights movements and the abolitionists) and oppose the death penalty like the left. Traditionally Catholics were Democrats (in fact our only Catholic president was a Democrat)but this changed when issues like abortion and gay marriage became big with the Democrats.
