Two doses of MMR provide full immunity to 99% of vaccinees. You don't have to fiddle around with potentially harmful Vitamin A.

I never said it prevented measles. It has shown that it can prevent COMPLICATIONS, DEATH and HOSPITALIZATIONS if you get the measles.

Those outbreaks you linked all happened before a second dose of MMR was added to the immunization schedule.
They have to revise the schedule again because even people who have had two doses have contracted measles in the Disneyland case. Check your titers.

You and I are around the same age. Remember how many kids had hearing aids then? Not so much now. Same with blindness.

Not what I wanted but somewhat informative. Raw numbers, not per capita.

Damn 1%

Among the known cases, five people had received two or more measles vaccinations and one person had received at lease one dose of vaccine
Have you had your measles shot? Maybe you need another

I just did this calculation for another board (not CD). Five people out of conservatively speaking 150,000 fully immunized/natural immunity bearing Disneyland visitors got the measles. That's .003%. 1 in every 30,000. It's actually probably more like 5 in 200,000 or even 250,000. You can't get much better odds than that. A 70 year old man got the measles there too. He presumably had natural immunity; he would have been born in 1944-45. People born in 1956 or earlier are considered naturally immune b/c everyone got the disease back then. I've had my titers checked, and I had the disease. I also have some mild hearing loss from either measles or mumps.

Be happy that the odds are in your favor.

Someone should probably let Chris know that it's safe for him to come out of his bunker.

Yep. I had a cousin who is deaf because her mom was exposed to measles while pregnant with her. Measles isn't something to play around with. I have hearing loss due to ear infections associated with mumps. It's probably been bad enough to warrant hearing aids since I was a child but I got along so I didn't get them. Teachers just complained that I didn't pay attention and mom always told me to turn the TV/radio down. I have Bluetooth enabled hearing aids now. Cool.

From your site: "For every 1,000 children who get measles, one or two will die from it"

I wonder how many out of every 1000 children who get the vaccine die from it?

Some people may suffer from severe complications, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and encephalitis (swelling of the brain). They may need to be hospitalized and could die.

As many as one out of every 20 children with measles gets pneumonia, the most common cause of death from measles in young children.
About one child out of every 1,000 who get measles will develop encephalitis (swelling of the brain) that can lead to convulsions and can leave the child deaf or mentally retarded.
For every 1,000 children who get measles, one or two will die from it.

Measles may cause pregnant woman to give birth prematurely, or have a low-birth-weight baby.

The Measles chapter of the Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (Pink Book) describes measles complications in more depth.
Exactly what are you disagreeing with?

This source says a 30% complication rate.
http://www.immunize.org/catg.d/p4209.pdf

This source says 6 to 20%.
