California's measles outbreak began at Disneyland | The Verge

People who aren't vaccinated against measles should stay away from Disneyland, California health officials said this week, after an outbreak in the state was traced back to the popular theme park. As the Wall Street Journal reports, officials on Wednesday confirmed 59 cases of the disease in California, of which 42 have been linked to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

and here is the anti-vac death toll (not counting flu virus of course, this is the standard round of vaccines people should have)

Centers For Disease Control Reports On Vaccine Preventable Deaths

Good job anti-vaccination people.

Saved 0
killed LOTS

and from USA TODAY

For every 1,000 children who get the measles, one or two will die from it, and one will get brain swelling so severe it can lead to convulsions and leave the child deaf or mentally impaired, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said
I had every kind of measles out there, thank goodness no permanent damage. On the other hand, my grandma lost her hearing in one ear. Needless to say, all my kids got vaccinated.

Me, too. Last time was the year the vaccine was released.

We've eradicated a lot of diseases that foreigners have brought back in force--polio, drug-resistant TB, leprosy. Seems like measles are the least of our worries.

I had every kind of measles when I was a kid. As did pretty much every kid I knew. Why all the excitement?
A person who traveled from India brought a case of measles into Tarrant County. The flight stopped in Dubai before reaching DFW on or around Jan 7th-ish. They are tracking those people down. So yep, foreigners are bringing a lot of this stuff in.

Maybe they should.

There are many measles variants. I had 2 as a child. One of them gave me the measles rash in my eyes and inside my nose. It was the most unpleasant virus I ever contracted.

One variant which they used to refer to as 'German measles' causes birth defects if contracted by pregnant women.

Measles are nothing to fool around with unless you're stupid.

[quote=sanspeur;38130896]Measles kills one or two out of a thousand cases. The US population is slightly over 324,000,000, so at one death per thousand if there was no vaccination and everyone became infected....Do the math.[/quot

It kills because of complications from the measles, not the measles itself. Healthy children without compromised systems beforehand will survive.

You worked in the industry; I also work in the industry - I help make the flu vaccine. I get a flu shot every year because of what I do. Vaccines are not necessarily about protecting ourselves as they are about protecting our neighbors. If I would come down with the flu, even if it was not connected to work; people would jump to conclusions.

Many years ago I worked on the smallpox vaccine (1960's). Then we virtually eliminated smallpox in the whole world. You could say that we worked ourselves out of work. That is the ideal situation. We saved many, many lives from a horrible death.

Dr. Jonas Salk saved many from a crippling disease that also killed: Jonas Salk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. What parent would want their child to come down with polio?

We are all part of the biomass and what affects one; can affect many. If we do not protect ourselves; we can expose many to the diseases we contract. We owe it to the rest of humanity to prevent the spread of disease if possible.
