IMHO - A Republic like ours should never deal with any feudal tyranny such as Saudi Arabia. We should have no truce with Kings.

Also I think the Saudi women, as all women in the world, do not need more protection from other men but unlimited access to own and carry personal firearms. An armed woman is a safe woman.

That would have the same effect as all the people who want us to have zero carbon foot print. Up until this decade, we were dependent on them for our lifestyle. Forget about your Hummer, you couldn't even power a nation of Prius's without Mid East Oil prior to this decade (and likely still true).

Might be a nice soundbite, but that is an incredibly ignorant stance to take.

Saudi Arabia's new Yemen strategy: get behind a fence |Reuters

Saudi Arabia has cut off all aid money to Yemen - the USA has not made a statement yet about all the Millions we send to Yemen each year. So far - the US Administration prefers to pretend this Coup has not happened and that everything will be just fine. Yemen is their touted Success Story of "smart
power'.

The US State Department refused to answer questions about Yemen on 1/21 at the Daily Press Briefing, just kept saying the US supported the President and they were in control. There was no Daily Press Briefing yesterday when Yemen fell - just a short statement. We will see about today. They often cancel the Briefings when they have no earthly idea about the situation and don't want to answer questions. The US State Dept Daily Press Briefings are always a source of great Entertainment to read - I try to read them daily.

Iran is not an Arab country.

Excellent.

That's a very good description.

The Arabic peoples would be akin to Natives Americans with Oil.

From a sociological and historical perspective, you have to wonder what North America would be like if Native Americans were unified by a single language -- like Arabic tribes are -- and by a single religion.

The Ottoman Empire was beneficial in many ways, but one very negative aspect is that it perpetuated tribalism.

While European tribal groups were coalescing into supra-tribes by the 15th Century, and into nations by the 17th Century, the areas under Ottoman rule were still tribal/clan-based.

As the idea of nation-State solidifies during the 18th and 19th Centuries for the European peoples, the Ottoman Empire is still mired in tribalism.

After the Ottoman Empire collapses in the early 20th Century, the US and Britain perpetuate tribalism by exploiting tribal rivalries in order to gain power and control.

The Ottoman Empire ameliorated the Sunni/Shi'a division.

It was the US and Britain (and France) that revived the rivalry for exploitation.

Absolutely false. We could have switched off of Saudi oil decades ago if we wished to. Doing business with the Saudi was not a "have to", it was a 'want to".

There is more than enough oil, saying 'oh, we can't do without SA's oil' makes no sense. Now that oil is dirt cheap, we could afford to pay a little more than currently and exert some pressure on the Saudis. After all, they still depend on oil, without petro dollars and Western technology they are nothing.
