Compared to most other developed countries, the US (along with Singapore) has to be the most authoritarian fear-based society.

This is why cops here get away with ridiculous aggression that escalates to a gang of cops shooting dead some emo girl with a knife.

It might have been suicide by cop. And when you think about it, there's something somewhat disturbing about this being so common that it's actually an official suicide method. And sadder still that all it takes to make that happen is to just stand there with a kitchen knife.
There are similar videos of US cops doing the same.

Um, gee....didn't it ever dawn on you during the ongoing debate about body cams where police both act better and bad complaints dry up....that the Aussie (or any) cop might have acted differently without an obvious camera shining on him?

smh.....

This is just horrible and totally unjustifiable.

Police have a hard job and having the threat of your life taken from you when an assailant has a weapon is something most common people and armchair commentators will never have to face. That said the police in this country need either new training or new parameters in place. Probably both.

You start off claiming the police were in the wrong.

You imply racism and that maybe now "whites" will care.

Then you rebut commentary by claiming we don't have the facts.

In short, I'm going to start locking the arts and crafts closet and check for empty jars of paste with saliva around the rim in the trash.

Class dismissed.

Or you could try the German way, with a broom and a dog:

LiveLeak.com - German police arrest man with Samurai sword

Hope the doggie got a milkbone afterwards.

Shoot somebody....should have tasered them.

Taser somebody...defibrilation....should have tackled them.

Tackle somebody....head trauma, heart attack etc.....should have de-escalated the situation.

Hey, I'm 100% in favor of body cameras but the amount of armchair quarterbacking as if a violent confrontation is similar to sending your drink back at McD's because you got non-diet....is atrociously stupid.

Body Cams, 100%. That will get rid of most of the bad cops AND the people trying to make every cop out to be a bad cop.

Win-Win.

If it is so hard and stressful, they should find other employment that they can handle. Cops in this country are trigger happy.

You are armed and a knife wielding maaniac comes after you. What do you do?

A: Shoot them
B: Invite them to a group therapy session.

No ****, Sherlock. But did it ever dawn on you that policing practices and laws vary from country to country? The fact that this wasn't necessarily a realistic of uncensored Aussie cop behavior doesn't negate the fact that police have been shown to be much more trigger-happy in the US than in other developed countries. (I can link the sources on it if anyone wants.)

Why don't you shake your head at that.
