Spoken like a true feminist. Now, do you have a list of "male traits" that women becoming more like men will become better off for having? Just curious.
Yes:
Less crying....being a woman doesn't mean you can blubber all over.
Be more aggressive at work (although as a woman you will be seen a Bit-- while a man will be seen as "wanting to get ahead")
Less smilling, women smile at strangers! And they smile more than men....of course they will then be seen as a Bit-- while men are just seen as "serious".
Go for math and science, engineering...where the money is...Oh, you already are...good!
And, NO, you don't "need it all"...your job CAN be your life....not a really pleasant thought but men do well with ignoring family life ...
Oh, and quit squealing like a stuck pig when you see a bug or spider....shut up and fake some bravery....like men do
"Father Knows Best" was at least giving us ideals to live up to. I'm sick of seeing disgusting displays of dysfunctional families with cursing, bad parenting, selfishness, adultry, alcoholism, anything goes mentality. At least during prime time. Lets give back to kids some presentation of morality and decency to live up to. And no, families won't always live up to it, but at least there is a role model for it, something to strive for. And its a good lesson to realize that WE aren't always perfect. Homer Simpson, The Family Guy and all the rest of them are disgusting role models. And unfortunatley, many kids don't have much better at home and then have no better to find on T.V. and in the media. Who do these poor kids have as a good role model? No one. Sad.
Ideals to live by are supposed to be provided at home. They're supposed to be reinforced by religion, consistent in school, and in the communities we live in observing what is socially acceptable behavior. Hillary Clinton wrote a book about "it takes a village" and half the country gets up in arms claiming the gestapo gubbermint is coming to their house dictating. I'd love to see better programing, but just look at what you've fixated upon. Homer Simpson and the Family Guy. You blew past The Courtship of Eddies Father without a second glance.
Similarly, men are more attracted to porn than they are real women. They're using sex to sell asprin for criminy sake. Is that really so horrible? It's a horrible statement about men, how they define themselves, and how easily led around by nonsense blamed on biology. It's a horrible message for young girls to be bombarded with the relentless message that the only thing that makes them valuable in the world is sex. How is that same message schooling young boys to perpetuate the same dysfunction? Exhibit A- ongoing vulgarity contests in gangster rap/ hip hop music.
Whomever up yonder said that adults knew the difference between tv and reality... Robert Young said in an interview years ago that old ladies would regularly come up to him on the street asking for medical advice from their hero- Marcus Welby MD. I think one of them complained that he failed to sign his proper autograph (not recognizing the actors name). There's no denying a segment of our civilization is willfully ignorant. I think it's wrong to attribute this to spiteful motive, but rather, fear of changes in a technologically leapfrogging world moving too fast for them. How hard is it for older people to acquire computer skills vs a kid growing up with one? When great grandpa gets a blue screen of death he calls the grandkids over to fix it because his craftsman tools don't cut the mustard. I would hope his skills aren't lost to modernity, but like traditional skill sets of women, they're only valuable when a culture values them. If you believe America is going to hell in a hand basket, look to see where you've invested all your attention.
I think most children have better sense these days (witnessing a frightening level of cynicism that IMO robs them of childhood), but you're right, they're still prone to mimicry and generally very impressionable up until later teen years. That would be why leaning on Hollywood as a babysitter in your living room is an exceptionally bad idea. I grew up in an era when children and household chores were part of paying dues in life skills. Leaving the nest did not result in a nervous breakdown trying to operate a washing machine. Nowadays people act like sweeping a floor or raking the yard is child slavery.
Back to fatherhood relative to the bigger picture; I'd say the vital missing ingredient in our culture is that men needed to be teaching children how to channel their energy into productive healthy outlets that are socially acceptable. Traditionally men lead the way for the next generation to aspire for a profession. The problem with modern world (reference artsyguy's youtube video) is that men have had to solve that problem 3x's over for themselves in post industrial era. Failing to do so, they left their children without a healthy role model that fits society. The presumption in that video is that women haven't had to adapt to the similar circumstances time immemorial, which is utter nonsense. The difference being that women have been the majority (since anyone started honestly counting), however, the world was designed by men to serve men. If they don't care for the civilization we're collectively looking at today, they're free to take a good hard look at why. When the only answer they have falls back on scapegoating women that's a clear sign of immaturity, not the stalwart tradition of leadership.
This deserves it's on thread, but here are the facts about gender dynamics with generational spin for the last century: www.prb.org/pdf09/64.1generations.pdf Y'all investing the time to know are going to be shocked at how the stereotypes are defied by early 1900 generation.

I've been accused of this, and ironically, half accused of 'coming onto' men (@ church! ) because I smiled at a stranger. Women can't win this dumb game going on in their mind, so I found it best not to bother paying any mind to the man behind the curtain.
Oh, the poor uneducated....they don't know that at one time men wore wigs, tight pants that tied in a bow at their knees and silk stockings...sorta like the first President......
We survived....
And, just to play Devil's Advocate - Eric Clapton was contemporary with Donovan (heterosexual, but he did have an effeminate, androgynous image which made him even more popular) and almost contemporary with David Bowie (bisexual and a definite gender bender)
And most of Quentin Tarantino's films aren't exactly PC "male feminism" (OK, the "Kill Bill" films are an obvious exception....)

What ticks me off is people telling me to smile, on a number of occasions there have been men whom I have never met walk up to me and tell me to smile. I'm sure no man has ever been told to smile by a stranger. I'm sick of people thinking I don't smile "enough"
It's true that a job can be a women's whole life, but to be truly healthy it shouldn't be. A woman doesn't need a husband or kids, but friends and social connections are essential to both genders.
I find that most men who complain about the feminization of men are simply unable to adapt modern life.
So now we have to dress properly and have a better personal hygiene to please women? What's wrong with that? They've been doing it since forever, no?
Do you have to look like a neanderthal to be manly? Is it that manly to be a fat/greasy/hairy/classless/etc...? Are you somehow an alpha male because you wear a Slayer t-shirt and only shower once a week?
I always thought what made a man a man is his ability to compete and surpass his peers. And to do that, you have to adapt to your environment and take advantage of it. In 2010, you're not gonna get real far in life looking ruggish, being loud and clubbing your opponents.
If being comprehensive, avoiding conflicts, being a good listener, hitting the gym, moisturizing, dressing classy, smelling good, <insert cliche>...is what it takes to give you an edge at the office, well, do it. Or keep living with the illusion that you are a "real male" and wondering why you can't get high paid jobs or good looking women.
Anyway, I find that men who blame feminism are simply lazy. It's not like we have to kill dangerous wild animals or dual with other men to impress women nowadays. All we have to do is look a little cleaner.

Well stated. You just impressed all the women reading this.
The feminization of men is increasing to the point that the law enforcement and the justice system is biased towards guys. Most of them are male mistreating their own gender. They're just trying to please those people.

The deadly alliance of radical feminists with the "law and order" right strikes again! It began in California and has subsequently spread throughout the nation and anglosphere.
