Military says Washington state marijuana shops 'off-limits' to troops
By Victoria Cavaliere SEATTLE (Reuters) - A U.S. military base south of Seattle has sent letters warning retail marijuana shops that military personnel are banned from entering their businesses and buying cannabis products, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
Ummm...by what authority do military commanders send WARNING letters to local retail business about banning soldiers from businesses?
The people they need to warn are soldiers...not retailers. Retailers should sell their products to anyone coming through that door of legal age.
The military can send whatever letters it wants just like the dope businesses can tell them to go eff themselves.
The military can always restrict their troops to the base and all businesses can suffer as a result.
I don't know if I'd go that far saying that solders have no business going into these places or buying weed in places where it is legal. I mean, look at the way some of them drink on their down times. But obviously they shouldn't be messing with it while on duty, or when not on leave. But again, I do agree it shouldn't be up to the shop to play babysitter.
If a soldier, sailor, Marine or airman pops positive for dope on a whiz quiz, they are court martialed and discharged with a DD or BCD. Seldom a OTH.
Then put the establishments off limits. Big deal. That's not what this thread is about.
The military shouldn't be sending letters to businesses selling a legal substance asking them to present evidence that they won't sell a legal substance to military members. The onus is on the troops, not the businesses.
If the military doesn't trust its troops not to get high, they have bigger issues.
Technically pot is not a legal substance in the United States.... That is until the federal law is repealed. Federal laws trump State laws

I understand that. But how is that the fault of the shop? They're operating a business, not a daycare. The shop is operating legally according to state law. So long as they're not selling to minors it isn't up to them to be a babysitter.

I think the military is doing both, warning their soldiers and informing the stores that soldiers should not be buying weed. It's really no different then sending letters to tattoo parlors, informing them of military regs against certain types of tattoos that violate standards.
