I am curious to know what people think was the most equal decade; I have an idea. By equal I mean, specifically, at which point in time was there equal opportunity for men and women of every race. I think things have gone from being unequal towards blacks and women, to being unequal towards whites, Asians and men. I am sure people out there think differently - hence the poll. So what do you think?

think it really depends

to men/women:
for example during ww2.. women were doing a lot of work, while the men were out fighting a war....ie Rosie the riveter

the late sixties and seventies you have a big sexual freedom time... remember the Virginia slims ads "you've come a long way baby"

late seventies early eighties, you have the madonna revolution and the one commercial of "I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never let you forget you are a man, because I am a woman""

as to minorities...there has always been issues...but we have come a long way from slavery, the Asian railroad workers, the Japanese interment camps, the civil right movement, etc........ may not have eliminated prejudice, but things have improved a lot

as to a time frame.... I am voting 1920s-1950s because that 30ish year span saw some of the biggest improvements, IMHO

Don't care for anything in the U.S. post 1968, "equal" or not.

This is difficult to answer because the most equal decade for white men of all classes was probably the 1950s. The most equal decade for women and racial minorities is the 2010s, but this is a time of great inequality in incomes.

I said the same, because the great depression was in those years as was WWII, with both events forcing more people into being more equal.

It's not even close to being equal. We're going to need another 10-20 years before everyone gets on board with equality.

C'mon...we have equality laws...no one can be treated differently than another...

TREATED is the key word....we are not all equal! Never have been, never will be. We all have equal opportunity to do the things we are ABLE to do....not everyone can be a doctor or physicist ....not everyone can be a mom (or a woman)...not everyone can be a dad (or man)....there are inherent limits to our "equality".

I have no upper body strength, so I will never climb a rock wall...no matter how much I think I deserve to do that! There are simply things that folks can and can't do...equality has NOTHING to do with it!
