In a prison system... Los Angeles County for example ...
The inmates get three meals a day.. two hot.. fresh food grown on the prison farm ... equaling or bettering any meal any person could access outside. The system has a farm.. a bakery.. a dairy... steeryards
The inmates get medical.. education.. exercise yards all well equipped.. carpeted day rooms..television.. mail.. visits.. counseling.. job training...law libraries
Any professional jail runs like this... a blend of lawsuits.. court mandates.. civilian review inspections.... union intervention ..and professional duty pride
Do crappy baloney sandwiches get served.. yep.. just like in the world
Many inmates don't mind jail and get clean..get big.. get strong.. perfect their criminal trade ...
I like tents and MREs... and prison labor.. bleeding liberals have stopped most of these practices
Crooks should pay society back for their behavior ... labor would be a good start
Even for Guantanamo bay prison, look at the food they serve. These prisoners have private chef and great food.

In MY opinion there should be NO charges for possession of Marijuana, now moving it across national borders is another matter.

I'm ok with cheap, simple food like bologna sandwhiches so long as it's not rancid meat and moldy bread. Oatmeal for every breakfast is fine too. Oats are very cheap and very nutritious.
How about the prisoners family pay for their time in prison.
When Mr. CSD and I were broke we had to do without cable, cell phones, internet and a house phone but prisoners get all of that and more.
We should not have to pay for the care of prisoners when we have to do without any of those luxuries given in prison.
Prison in the United States is like a luxury vacation to some prisoners and if their families had to do without to cover their expenses I bet the prisoners would have much less and their families would has well.

And i don't care how many farms and bakeries LA County Jail has...it's still the most dangerous county lockup in this country. It's gladiator school and you can find yourself in there for nothing more than stacking up traffic warrants or back child support arrears.

You're actually suggesting that cooks...trained to make good tasting food, should INTENTIONALLY make food with no taste, and serve it to hundreds of p*ssed of prisoners in a facility that's already on edge 24/7? That's what you're suggesting?

Prison is for punishment, not for enjoyment. I don't care if prisoners don't like the way the food tastes. They should have thought about that before harming society.

Really now? So a skeleton crew of prison guards that are basically UNARMED are gonna be able to handle a facility with hundreds of thugged out prisoners that eat Nutraloaf 3 times a day? You're saying that?
Dude...you wouldn't last 2 days as an inmate in a place like Folsom or Florence in General Population. The weakest prisoners would be extorting you for your commissary. They'd be exchanging you for packs of Top Ramen and loose cigs. And yet, you think it's possible to get away with serving hundreds of prisoners Nutraloaf as a meal with nothing more than a few unarmed guards supervising them?
