We have moved from being a country where half the households have at least one firearm (and the musket hanging on the wall counts); to being a country where it's closer to 1 in 3. Fewer households are buying more guns. This is fact.

Here's the same chart overlayed with three different gun ownership studies:

Gallup poll and a social study ....That is grand. You keep believing those numbers, what ever makes you feel better.

Interesting....seems like there is always conflicting information on these topics

NICS checks at all time high..... More background checks equals more guns. The FBI is slightly more accurate than a poll.

Don't look now but this story refers to the Manchin - Toomey bill that was defeated in congress.

Actually I think the problem is guns and mental illness. The dogma that mental illness never causes violence is counter-productive because it means research in that field is taboo, which will ultimately just mean we can't help the criminally insane and will insist on just treating them like "bad people" and throwing them in jail.

people just don't realize how much has changed in society since 2010, the last year from those previous polls.

Over 100 million gun owners in the U.S.
If MOST were irresponsible as you say, wouldn't there be millions and millions of stories like this?

Let's stop being a hypocrite pretending we are against gun ownership because we want a safer society with less senseless deaths.

Those that take that stand are hiding behind their true intentions, or they are just blind morons following a left wing socialist agenda.

I'll post here what I posted in the other running thread that is along the same subject.

While you drink your wine, beer, and sip your scotch and fancy drinks just keep in mind you support an industry that is one of the causes of child abuse and neglect, diseases and sickness, tragic car accidents causing death, destruction, life time crippling injuries of innocent people, huge heath costs placing the burden on us all and kills nearly 250 people each day in the USA.

and to top it all off it's not even a protected amendment. Talk about greed, the gov't is laughing all the way to the bank with the tax revenue. Money always comes first before the "children"

So save your phoney cause it's for the "children" bit. Because if you truly were for the "children" you would be fighting to bring back the 18th Amendment, not fighting against the 2nd Amendment and law abiding Americans.

and how about all those very tough Federal and State drug laws against illicit drugs along with their harsh penalties? how are they doing to keep drugs off the street?

Crime will never be solveable. Bad people are born everyday. I'm not a big gun person but I'm not opposed to citizens having guns either. I really don't care if people own guns or not. The vast majority of gun owners are responsible good people. Some gun owners are bad just like we have some bad cops, bad politicians, etc. I put guns in the same category as abortion. The debate will be going long after we're gone and we're up in heaven playing a harp alongside Jimi Hendrix.
