A friend of mine suggested that in a few years, we'll be looking at another civil war in the U.S. Red states against blue, he says. I think this is a leap, but I've been thinking about it quite a bit in the past week. How long have we been so divided, or is the gap as wide as I perceive it to be? I feel like everywhere I turn, there are phrases like, "conservatives always try to..." and "that's a typical liberal...". At what point were we reduced to this, or is it as simple as I'm portraying it here? Part of it might be the fact that I'm young and have never paid as much attention to politics as in the past few years. What do y'all think?

The Break Up.
I don't think you have to worry about the nation breaking up or going to war with itself in the near future. But my guess is that in next 500 - 700 years we will seperate into couple of smaller nations. What the exact boarders and ethinc, political, and cultural values of each new nation can't be fully seen at this point. Whether this will be a good or bad think is also unknown. But what I thinking is that we won't go to war over states seperating from the general union. Basically we will just allow ourselves to be broken up.
Red states vs blue states will never happen. Its not a given that a state is a definite red or blue state. One only needs to look at the election maps to see that defining a state as red or blue is only a temporary condidtion and things change with both the issues and the way the parties are conducting themselves.
Within states, regardless of how the state votes there are huge amounts of people on both sides of the issue. And keep in mind that only about a third of US citizens actually vote.
A war between liberals and conservatives will never happen. Other than an endless war of words.
I do believe the civility of the nation's populace is changing for the worse and will continue to decline. Especially if illegal immigration is allowed to continue. It might be better to go ahead and get the country divided up to avoid the coming clash. And allow people to reside in whichever country (*******istan or Pleasantville) they would better be suited.

Actually. If the states of New England leave together. Instead of being called *******istan or something like that. Could we be known as Red Sox Nation?
History goes in cycles. We are due, eventually, to fall. A civil war may be part of it (not another civil war...the first was was not a true civil war), but not necessarily. If it really does come down to Red v Blue, it's going to be a short war...as most of the military, national guards, and citizen militia are going to be predominently Red.
The blue states would be so screwed... The red states are the ones with all the guns and are grossly overrepresented in the military.
I don't think it would be a "civil war" as much as it would be a big armed Red State "****" to which the blue states wouldn't have much of a choice but to quickly submit. The Red Staters could make use out of their newly conquered Blue Staters, though; the blue-staters could be tasked with all of the arts and crafts, decorative beading, basketweaving, jewelry-making, interior decorating and organic gardening for the red-staters, not to mention the market-price for Red State Yoga Instructions and Florists would probably plunge.

Look as a New Englander that is not named Kennedy. I say that most of us up here would rather be destroyed and killed by Redstaters then ever live under their rule. Granted if you guys are man enough not to bring your guns and other assorted weapons. I think we be more than happy to have a go old fashion gang (state) fight. Which of course if we will win if we got enough liquor in us. So just tell us what parking lot you want us to show up at and we are good to go.

And with the defeat of the blue states naturally would come the rule of an entirely right-winged government and then America can pick-up where we left off 50 years ago... without the level of racism that was typical then.
