The British government run health sytem in action. The costs of the NHS are busting the bank and remainder of the WWII generation is very old now indeed. So they are apparently auctioning them off to care homes based on the lowest bidder.

Old people auctioned off to care homes on the internet

The elderly and disabled are being ‘put up for auction’ by local councils on ‘eBay-style’ websites, with care firms then bidding to offer them a bed. At least a dozen local authorities are listing vulnerable people’s details – including their age and what care and medication they need – before inviting bids from care homes in the area. The bidding is sometimes open for only a few hours, at other times it can last for two or three days. The cheapest offer often wins.
I would invoke the term "Orwellian" here, but I don't think George Orwell ever came up with anything quite as Orwellian as this.

If anyone truly believes this is not the direction the left in this country is trying to take us, then I have some ocean-front property in Arizona that you may be interested in.

And of course we all know what comes after this. It is the dreaded government run death panels, which Howard Dean and Mark Halperin, high-profile lefties both, have both affirmed are already built into our current Obamacare law.

You don't know much about Britain do you? Britain today is being run by the Conservative Party lead by a fine man named David Cameron. This is the direction being charted by Britain's pro-business, Laissez-faire, upper class, Big Money, pro-monarchy, established church anti-union etc etc party.

ALL the UK parties are radical leftists.

If he were anything but to the left of Marx, he'd be devolving the state and services back to private ownership and an open, free market.

But, since he's not, you have no point, whatsoever.

Rep. Any Democrat is to the Right of any UK PM. Americans think that Left and Right terms are exclusive to Americans

As America's LWNJs are fond of pointing out, there are no truly conservative parties in Europe. Nice try though.

It was a generation ago, when they ran out of "other people's money" to pay for the promises.

Now they're out of money, and can't borrow more, and so, they have to do what governments will do, choose who gets care and who doesn't. And the decisions will be based on keeping votes, nothing else.

This is not too dissimilar to nursing home placement of indigent elderly in the US who rely on Medicaid for nursing home care.

No, it isn't.

Indigents are people of unusual poverty or incapacity.

The people in the UK undergoing this are NOT that, they are in the NORMAL SYSTEM, everyone but the very rich are in the same boat.

Wow; that socialistic U.K. really has a problem, completely unlike the U.S. of course.

You should be really, really proud your minorities are just now getting access to similar elderly care as Caucasian; after all it's only the 21st century and all!

About 60% of all nursing home patients in the U.S. are funded by Medicaid. They don't have as many options as those who can pay out of pocket or have private insurance that covers nursing home care.

Health and safety issues within nursing homes are rather common in the US.
