Why do we give so much power to government? You need a permit to carry a taser????? That is beyond ridiculous.

A woman attempted to rob a bar in La Crosse, Wisconsin, but was thwarted by a customer with a taser. The police are making sure justice is served and have arrested the woman.

They arrested the man with the taser, too. That's because it's against the law in Wisconsin to carry a taser without a permit.

Here's yet another example of why it isn't a good idea to play hero.

It's no more crazy than in Texass, where anyone can openly tote around rifles and shotguns, but where up until the courts recently struck it down, you once couldn't even legally own a d*ildo (aka, an "obscene device")?!!

I think it's silly that we have gotten so scared of guns that we are compelled to ban them from public view. But yeah, that is stupid if you can't own a sexual device like that.

It is up to the district attorney to decide if they wish to pursue felony charges.

As the old saying goes, when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me. It sucks that he is being charged for doing a good thing, but he should have researched laws for tasers in his state first rather than assume.

First, the Hero did not go to jail. The link within the original link states that since he was trying to help, the police did not take him in, but let him go on a signature bond (which I guess is like when you get a traffic ticket, and sign the ticket agreeing to appear in court when summoned).

Second, the police do not have much choice in the matter regarding arrest: it was clear (apparently) that the Hero had an unregistered taser (I think such laws are foolish, but that it another issue for another thread), hence he was 'arrested'.

Finally, I imagine that the district attorney will decline to press felony charges. At most, they will charge the Hero with some misdemeanor, he will pay a small fine, and even that may be dismissed if he goes 90 days or whatever without tasing somebody. However, I bet all is dismissed.

I assume, as so often in such threads, we will never hear of any updates.

Agreed! This is not a lawless society.
