It comes down to two things. One. Are people looking for those with your Skillz? Two. How many competitors do you have?

I was in food service in the late 80's when I was 18. I raised a family on it. BARELY. I didn't buy a house, take sick time, vacations, etc.
I could not do the same today. In the meantime however the productivity, and income as a nation per person has skyrocketed.....to the top. Thats the point.

I can't comment on if it was enough to raise a family, but I do know this: back in the day, minimum wage jobs like food service were enough to pay for college tuition and only work part time. That's not possibly today. In fact, for a person to pay for their own college working a minimum wage job, they would have to work at least 17 hours a day to pay for 4 years of college.
Skill does=compensation. And college makes acquiring those skills easier and more accessible. College is unreasonably expensive, and not everyone has rich parents to pay for it or want to spend the first decade of their adult life repaying all their loans.

Why are there no congressional hearings on the cost of college?
If you are in the military as an enlisted person with BAH and the rest of the government benefits you will make $56,000 per year flipping hamburgers. If its good enough for the government why cant we raise the minimum wage for everyone else who picks up the tab for our military?

Uncle Sam holds the paper. Debt is the money supply. A nation of citizens in debt to the government is a necessity.
Who own the mortgage notes? Student loans? And the bankers just siphon 200 basis points off the top.
