That couldn't possibly be connected to their higher chances of being cast away by their community and at constant risk of verbal (and at times physical) abuse, could it?
As one who served on active duty in the military, I really don't care.
BUT, if they can't do the job they were hired for, then out they go!
They want to be a mechanic, but can't carry their 75 pound tool box to the job site?
Out.
They want to be infantry, but can't carry the ammunition and supplies?
Out.
They want to be artillery, but can't help reload the cannon?
Out.
They are built like a male, but don't feel comfortable showering with males? (or vice versa)
too bad, you use the shower room that matches your plumbing.

Screen them. By the way, should disability be given to people with mental and emotional problems? I can't wait for the answer...
Lots of transgender people serve in the military. They just transition afterwards. From what I've noticed, transsexuals join to try to masculinize their feelings away. So they're already serving in bunches.
