Again, it's the kids who played. It's their title, not the adults who who are responsible for the infraction. Penalize them. Fire them or fine them, but don't take away the title from the kids.
I disagree- some of those boys may have known they weren't supposed to be on the team, and their teamates probably knew as well. High School football teams use the same tactic in cheating. I even played for a church softball team that brought in former members for the championship game. Let's stop lowering standards just to avoid hurting feelings. The kids need to learn there are consequences to dishonesty. I realize accountability is a rare concept in our country.
This doesn't sound like an honest mistake. Sounds like the coaches literally forged a boundary map that included entire cities that weren't in their assigned area, made sure it looked just like the real boundary map and then presented it as evidence when recruiting/coaching until it was discovered.
Also, I'm thinking the investigation into the JRW team by the rules official on the other team may have less to do with racism, than their classless decision to run up the score 43-2 on that team. If they'd won that game 13-2 I wonder if there would have been motivation to investigate? 43-2? Their coaches should have been suspended for that alone. Scumbags.
Yeah-this seems much more calculated then I originally thought. Too bad but oh well, it doesn't come as a surprise the way sports have become. There doesn't seem to be much fun in it anymore..
I was a fan of the Philly Taney team this year with Mone' Davis-but they too drew from around the city. They obviously were still within the rules and guidelines of the LL though.
Really? What happened to " just let the kids play?" The adults who dug up this information for the Little League to investigate need to get lives. Seriously, how pathetic are we in this country?
Sounds like Gerrymandered politics to me. I doubt if the kids really knew what was going on. I wonder if there are other teams doing the same. IMHO the most important lesson learned in these adult dominated "kids" sports is cheating works so long as you do not get caught. Just like in business and politics.
I posted this on another thread earlier, I think it says it all !
There is an article in today's Chicago Tribune by Michelle Manchir and Paul Skrbina stating that (And I'm quoting this from the paper) "Officials with the neighborhood Little League organizations knew the JRW officials had gerrymandered a map to cover up for ineligible players but kept it quite ." "Officials from JRW met with officials from 3 nearby leagues asking them to give JRW territory so they could "legitimize" the map but those officials refused." The matter came to a head on Jan 31st when JRW was found to have annexed areas from the other leagues without their permission. The map had been "redrawn" and backdated and signed to make it appear it had been the map used during the entire tournament"
You can read the whole article in the Tribune page 8 titled "Officials knew JRW used bogus map"
This is the story that should be circulating and on the front page instead of what we're hearing from the race baiters!
Yep, this wasn't a little mistake or tiny cheat that didn't affect the outcome of games. It took the cooperation of a bunch of local LL officials to make this happen.
It's too bad kids who knew nothing about the cheating are stripped of the title, but the blame is squarely on those local officials, and any of the parents who knew of and went along with the scheme.
And who knows if any of the teams who didn't win are guilty of the same infraction. How about we investigate all the participating teams to see if all the players lived in the districts they say to belong to?
"Upon the review of the Peachtree City National Little League's affidavit, the Little League Tournament Committee, in conjunction with the Southeast Regional Office, found that Peachtree City National Little League had violated Little League regulations, which led to the disqualification of their Little League tournament team.
lol@replies I can't believe grown people have so much vendetta out for kids.
You just don't get it, do you? The team rigged the game odds by bringing in good players from outside their established district. It doesn't matter whether it was the adults or the children who cheated. The TEAM did and therefore won unfairly. The title should be stripped from the TEAM.
I can't believe that presumably grown people would be fine with teaching their children or any children that winning at any and all costs, to include cheating, is acceptable and that honesty and integrity mean nothing. Talk about raising a generation of potential frauds and criminals.
In some peoples ethos I guess everyone should win a trophy regardless of performance. What a blueprint for future failure.
Again, it's the kids who played. It's their title, not the adults who who are responsible for the infraction. Penalize them. Fire them or fine them, but don't take away the title from the kids.
How would you feel if your kid was on an opposing team that was beaten by the cheaters? Those kids on the other teams were playing by the rules.
Frankly, this will be a valuable life lesson for these kids. Certainly a better lesson than it would be if they let it slide and taught them that it's OK if you cheat and win.
I also have to say, so typical that this came out of Chicago.
