"Whole European civilization" in danger? The furthest Islam spread to Western Europe was Spain, where Jews, Christians, and Muslims lived alongside each other.

Something called the Enlightenment developed in the Christian West. That is why we are discussing if gays should be allowed to be married, not if gays should be stoned. Much of the Arab world missed out on the Enlightenment.
It is the Christian West that has all but eliminated slavery in the parts of the world where it has influence.
