In the wake of the NC shootings, the muslim community is asking for this to be charged as a hate crime (as if murder weren't enough).
My question is, how many muslims have been killed in the US in hate crimes compared to how many people have muslims killed in the name of islam in the US?
Have any of the muslim killers been prosecuted for hate crimes (again, if the main charge is murder, does it matter?)
Like many states, North Carolina's "Hate Crime" laws don't cover murder. They can wish all they want - the State of North Carolina charging this with a bias-motivated sentence enhancement is not going to happen.

There was a case in NYC (New York's hate crime law does apply to murders) a few years back where a woman was prosecuted for a hate crime due to her anti-Muslim hatred. She killed a man (a stranger to her) by pushing him off a platform in front of a train because she thought he was Muslim and because she hates Muslims. Turns out he wasn't actually Muslim though. But that just goes to show "hate crimes" aren't about victims at all. They're about the motive of the criminal.
