Why do liberals defend ANY religion? They should only defend the ones that you approve of. And everything else that you approve of. Say it ain't so.

I'm left wing and I don't defend any religion... and to be honest, I think Islam is probably the worst one. I've actually made the argument on this forum that Islam is highly anti-egalitarian and goes against pretty much everything the left stands for.
But I don't think all Muslims are violent or overly dogmatic and I see very little point in hating someone simply because they're dumb enough to believe in a religion.
I feel the same way about Christians-- some of them are totally cool and even though I don't believe what they do, as long as they're not preaching to me about what I should think and how I should act, we can probably get along.
But of course, this might be too complicated for some right-wingers to understand.

I'm not liberal but I always thought freedom of religion was a pillar to the creation of our society. I think the real hypocrisy when it comes to not defending religious expression. I think our government should attempt to defend any religion that gets persecuted in our country.
I'm not religious but I find the hilarity in the Liberals walking on egg shells when talking about Muslims but when it comes to someone talking about religious beliefs and contraceptives, well then...all the hate for Christianity comes out. I'm not right wing religious guy either, just another observation of liberal hypocrisy.

Interesting take, never thought of it that way even though I think I don't think it boils down to something as basic as that.
