Wrong, the 1st Amendment to the Constitution makes the right to freely exercise one's religion paramount to any laws that would infringe upon that right.
The Court held that the First Amendment's protection of the "free exercise" of religion does not allow a person to use a religious motivation as a reason not to obey such generally applicable laws. "To permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious belief superior to the law of the land, and in effect to permit every citizen to become a law unto himself." Thus, the Court had held that religious beliefs did not excuse people from complying with laws forbidding polygamy, child labor laws, Sunday closing laws, laws requiring citizens to register for Selective Service, and laws requiring the payment of Social Security taxes.
The same would apply to discrimination against gays. Your religious beliefs don't allow you to break the laws that everyone else has to obey. SCOTUS has already said so, and Scalia wrote the majority opinion.
let's start a petition, to remove gays from protected class and treat em as ordinary citizens.
So that we can discriminate against them at will?
Seriously -- what if this woman had said her religion prevented her from serving blacks? People used the Bible for generations to justify the oppression of blacks. Would that be OK because she should be able to express her religious freedom however the heck she wants?
but I don't care about LGBTF folks, Slavery is when you do not have the right to choose whom you do business with.
that's fine and dandy. im ok with that, but I hope you know most of society is shifting to acceptance. Your kind is slowly fading out and sadly the world will eventually look bleak.
in fact, I would say gays affect me less than uptight religious folks. Why? because politicians bend over backwards for their votes, not the majority. in essence, your kind does affect and effect everyone else's lives.
I still don't think you realize YOU are passing judgment and punishment on someone else when you have no right to. You are not the law nor are you a deity.
hey I dislike KKK members but if one walked into my business and wasn't racist, was polite(at least in my face), I'd still do business. But that's because money from them is no different than Warrant buffet to me. Money is Money. Its value does no increase or decrease on sexual orientation, hate for specific races, how tall, white or black you are.
what I wouldn't do however, is sell to someone who wants to harm others. And honestly I doubt you understand what I mean by this.
