Every time we bring up cutting welfare (aka leech enabling handouts), the first thing liberals say is "cut military spending first". As foreign military powers grow, who do you think is going to be more of an asset to the US? The military, or the welfare collectors?

One Trident sub can do things to China that the whole Chinese sub fleet can't do to us. But it looks like they're trying:

[Mulloy] said the U.S. military did not believe China carried nuclear missiles on its submarines, but that it had been producing missiles and testing them.

This isn't an arms race. China is enjoying economic growth, which is dependent on the West. They're not going to attack anyone. They're just spending money.

The military tends to vote Republican. The welfare collectors vote Democrat. Welfare collectors are the DNC's bread and butter, so it figures that they want to eliminate the military and explode the welfare-dependant class.

One SLBM MRV equipped Ohio class submarine can completely level every major city in China and they have no defense against it. (The USA currently has 14 of these)

It really doesn't matter how many low quality subs that China dumps in the ocean.

Go read the article. It says China has 60, and we have 71. For real fun the article also makes it clear that their submarines arent as good as ours.

Sooo OP is stating the opposite of reality actually. Fun times.

And they spend far far less then what we spend. But OP thinks we should spend more? uh huh.

Let me get this straight--you want to cut welfare spending, which mostly goes to children and the elderly, so you can start another (hugely expensive) arms race for no particular reason.

If it's a abysmal idea, expect right-wingers to champion it.

Chinese submarines are not a threat. The Chinese military is not a threat. China is one of our biggest trading partners, and vice versa. Why would we go to war with each other? I know it's fun to play 'what if' and 'GI Joe' games, but at some point, conservatives are going to have face reality--this isn't 'Call of Duty'. Our world has globalized and is continuing to do so. No country on Earth (including ours) can afford a 'real' war. States will have to learn to resolve their disputes though diplomacy, or they will economically perish. Humanity will have to *gasp* learn to work together, put aside our differences and work together, or we all go. And for the record, our military spending *crushes* every other countries'. I'd say it's time we put some of that money into our infrastructure, our education, etc. and quit playing Risk...

The children and elderly just need to learn how to build guns, bullets, bombs, missiles, tanks, planes, aircrafts , and carriers and they can still have their welfare!

If the day ever came where China wanted to declare war on the US, China would've won that war before it ever started. Or there wouldn't be a world left. There's only two outcomes.

But hey, if it means more jobs for southeastern Connecticut, then by all means go for it. Let's just not pretend it has a thing to do with actual defense.
