The R's were dumb to leave a spineless twit like Boehner in power, should have replaced him with someone who has a backbone.
Boehner isn't spineless. He's got plenty of backbone. You don't claw your way into the Speaker's chair by being soft. You have to kick a lot of asses to get there.
What he doesn't have is presidential powers or good options.
Those things trump having a backbone all day long.
I guess that Pelosi wasn't really lying when she said that they would get what they wanted the following week. It's just a big charade. I'm not sure what good having the majority in both chambers is doing for the Repubs. They are letting the POTUS and the Dems walk all over them.
