Then why have voters been very consistent in voting against it?
Consistent? Maybe in the past but the tides have turned. I believe in the 2012 election voters in all 4 states that had SSM on the balllot voted to legalize same sex marriage.
More nonsense. Rights have been denied since time immemorial, as evidenced by Loving v. Virginia as well. You're batting 0.000 today.
Once again, the Constitution is a charter of NEGATIVE liberties. It establishes what the federal government CAN NOT DO.. Not what it can do. It does NOT establish rules that that must be followed, it says what law CANT BE PASSED.
The government can not deny benefits to one group and deny them to others. Once a state allows gay marriage that couple gets the same benefits as any married couple. Taxes, S.S. benefits etc. So the Supreme Court is going to acknowledge gay marriage as legit. Once that happens the fight is over. There maybe loose ends here or there but its going to be small fights.
The 14th amendment covers marriage as much as it covered womens right to vote.
It took an amendment to make it a right... Just as it is going to take an amendment to allow the federal government control marriage.
Yeah, yeah yeah you keep saying that but the courts see it differently. Where did you get your law degree? Out of a bottom of a box of Cracker Jacks?
You don't believe it will happen? It's already legal in almost 40 and the Supreme Court is making the final decision in June, and based on their current decisions to not grant stays to states like Alabama, it's pretty obvious which way they're going to vote.
Or do you somehow think the Supreme Court saying it's now legal in all 50 states doesn't actually make it legal in all 50 states?
You can argue all you want but SSM will be legal in all 50 states this summer.
Don't count on it. The court has been very reluctant to make single large moves in one swoop. I believe they will set in motion what will lead in the end to SSM in all states.
