go a few pages back in this thread, I already explained it twice now. it's because a mutilated woman is terrified of sex because it will cause her excruciating pain, so she's guaranteed to be a virgin at marriage, and she's also not likely to cheat on her husband, in fact she fears all strange men because being raped would be horribly painful to her too.
Some kinds of FGM involves sewing the vaginal hole closed to a tiny slit, so when her husband sleeps with her (rapes her)the first time, he feels more pleasure, while she bleeds and may even pass out from the pain.

seems more like a tribal ritual than anything related to religion.
That may be how it started but it spread to SE Asia with Islam. It may be safe to say that half the worlds Muslim women have had that part removed.
