I'd agree as long as their names are not leaked somehow. But, and I expect their names to get out, if they are, I think all bets are off. Also, if they think they can win damages from the university, I could see a lawsuit, even with the media attention.

Am I condoning what they were chanting? No. It was ignorant and classless, but like I stated in another thread. Do you really think black fraternities open their doors with open arms to whites, or even encourage whites to join? I'm sure there are just as many negative things said towards whites behind closed doors. It just hasn't been filmed and leaked.
I would change your sentence to "There are whites who will never accept or like blacks for the color of their skin and there are blacks who will 'never accept or like whites for the color of their skin'".

That's not really something I'd want out.

As an employer hiring somebody, I'd recommend hiding your face, shutting your mouth, and staying as far away from the public as possible so people forget about this.

Or either denounce the song sincerely and recognize what you are a part of.

Fighting this in court, running your name through the docket over a clearly racist song is stupid imo.

How exactly did the school "damage" them anyway? And why should the school be forced to allow them into their learning environment better yet?

I agree. Their names will be leaked. Too many stupid people out there for that to not happen. Then, all bets of the expelled students disappearing into the void are off. This will go to court.

These students will shortly realize they're in a desperate situation... expelled from school, unemployable... they absolutely will try to win damages from the university for violating their Constitutional rights. Boren would have been much better off had he let SAE revoke OU's charter (which they did), publicly condemned the students' actions (well within his rights without violating anyone else's), and let the students suffer the consequences of their idiotic actions (public reproach, unemployability, etc.). Boren has overreacted and has now stepped in sh*t by trampling on the students' First Amendment rights. Hope OU has deep pockets.

In a way, it is.

College and university are places of transition. You're not living with your parents anymore, but you're not living on your own really, either. You're still in school, not out in the workforce. You're learning about life. And universities are very aware that what's taught in the classroom is only a part of the learning experience.

I need to add, as well, that for these particular kids, "drunk, on a bus en route to a party", is going to prove to be a profound learning experience.

For those of you who want to read about the most disgusting case in recent times of bullying. It should put things into perspective.

I would love to hear opinions on this violence related to college hazing. Robert Champion was beaten to death on a bus on the way to perform with his college band.

Truth is, i don't see this as a national story beyond a day or so.

U of O has taken action and didn't prevaricate in doing so. Props to David Boren for taking care of business and moving swiftly to emphasize that Oklahoma won't tolerate that kind of behavior.

As far as i'm concerned, it's over.

He needs to improve his public image to the country if you haven't been keeping up.

And yes to me. Maybe it would do WONDERS for reaching those involved with the protest. Instead of talking down to me like I'm a nobody. Yesterday I repped him when citizens stood up for one of his fellow officers.

I've taken up for both sides in this. Its written, logged, tracked.

If the 1st thing you do after reading about this incident is jump at the media are those who are outraged you have problems. If you want to throw yourself in that category as well be my guest.

I guess people who want to say racist things feel comfortable knowing someone's got an excuse for them at every age

Teenagers: All teens say dumb things
College: Not really adults, have their whole lives ahead of them
Late 20s: Were probably sheltered, need to be educated (usually by the minorities they **** on)
30s~50s: Hey, they need to work and have families (which are not more important than racist Facebook post under their real name!)
50s~60s: They're a product of those times, can't blame dear old grandma/grandpa
60s~: All the racists will be dead soon

repeat
