Why would this be considered a violation of the right to freedom of speech? The university is simply revoking their enrollment, which is certainly appropriate given the circumstances.
Being local to this incident and actually having a family member that is/was in that fraternity at OU. There are a couple of things to add to the argument.
These guys had a reputation of being "rich rowdies" on campus. Just being drunken jerks for the fun of it was part of their persona.
Secondly, part of the reason that Boren reacted the way he did is about six years ago, a black OU freshman football player who had had a gun charge in high school did an impromptu rap video that included words about shooting people. The player was dismissed from the team and the university after the video was leaked onto you tube by a fellow football player.
Cool story, but will Boren also expel the Black Power fist student for similar reasons?
“There will never be a n—– SAE/There will never be a n—– SAE/You can hang ‘em from a tree, but it will never start with me/There will never be a n—– SAE.â€
If these are not the words, I will reconsider. If they are, I stick with my point.

I dont think someones life should be ruined because they made one mistake. So no, they shouldnt have been expelled.
That being said, they werent just "singing", thats minimizing what they did, and there is no way they made that song up on the spot either.
It has also been said that OU has a student code of conduct, like most schools, and they violated it.
Sigh. non-disclosures are not a governmental controlled item.
Gag orders tend to be temporary, And are part of the 6th amendment in scope.
Neither of those apply here. You call IC's position absurd, while you try and compare non governmental non disclosures, and 6th amendment related gag orders to a completely different issue. Thats absurd for you.

Thank you. As reprehensible as these racist idiots' actions are, they're protected as free speech according to the Constitution.
Believe me, they'll pay for their actions by being socially ostracized and unemployable, as they should be.
We CANNOT suspend Constitutional rights just because we disagree with whatever someone is saying. Let the court of public opinion, which unilaterally condemns these acts, suffice before wishing to erode Constitutional rights.
