So sad but true that this once great nation is on its decline! We have fought and died so hard for an idealogy that world must be free from tyranny, injustice and dictatorships but now we find our own government and President no better than scum. The crooked corporate lobbyists and politicians in limos who inhabit Washington now do not represent the real America any longer. I don't know what the answer is but I know if we continue to vote for the same people or party nothing will ever change. I am wondering since we have given out most of our wealth to other nations, will they come to our aid when we in ruin? NOT!
What do you expect when people value things more than ideas. When it is more important to be right than to do the right thing. When we go from "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" and instead replace it with, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for yourself". When we stopped asking if it can be done and started to ask, can we afford it. When we chose to be entertained instead of curious. When we began to measure the world from perfection down instead of chaos up. When we placed the bar of achievement down so low that all who came, passed. When we began to see no value in failure, no courage in peace, and no prosperity in fellowship.
Actually in certain areas they are allowed to vote. Weird as it is. Not only that I have heard rumors that people are trying to bus in illegals to these towns for them to vote...
That is how all this illegal immigration started in the first place...both parties would stand at the boarders, passing out brochures, saying "Vote for Me" but, since then, an awful lot of illegals lean towards the Democratic Party...and know, I'm an independent so I'm not pleading an untrue statement....
I've also found that Americans will defend their party, regardless of how corrupt they are. Why? Because we voted for them, and by stating they're corrupt or wrong, means we are corrupt or wrong, which is so silly...and they will defend that corruptness to the hilt. Not to mention, Americans are so illiterate about politics...and forget what some of these candidates did years ago, which turned our systems around...Like for instance McCain....who was a member of the Keating 5 and also very active in the S&L Scandals....Not to mention, what the Clinton's did, long before they reached the White House....I mean, the mentallity of our nation is declining....

I don't think most Americans are aware of the environmental impacts of population increases in the US. Adding one person to the US population is like adding 4 or 5 Chinese or Indians to the world. Most of the population growth in the US feeds directly into suburban sprawl, too., probably the least sustainable form of developement this country could come up with.
Most new immigrants in the US aren't buying tenements and riding the bus or train to work like they did 100 years ago- they're living in suburban subdivisions or condos like everybody else and driving cars. Suburban sprawl is cheap to build and it passes the buck onto future generations.
Georgia or Florida are good examples of overpopulated/overexploited states. Both states have water shortages, with Georgia being the worst and Florida having maybe 4-5 years left. Both states are hot destinations for recent immigrants to the US.

Yes, we the people have allowed this...we have not progressed as a nation, we have declined...due to greed and an ever growing individualism. Every decission we make, does not effect just one person, it can though effect an entire nation. People do not seem to understand, or can even comprehend....when they cheat on their spouses for example....they don't think about the consequences...at the time, it is only about self gratification...and it's not just about them...once they make that decission to cross that line...it now effects many more lives, and perhaps for the rest of their lives...their children, their mothers and fathers, their friends....and, they don't care, simply because we have lost that ability to think first about others.
It is the same with Politicians...they are robbing Peter to pay Paul...there is no money left...our military isn't strong...our research and technologies are declining. I had mentioned to someone when we were talking hurricanes and ice storms and said, I don't know when America is going to get it and start putting our lines underground...Oh she said, The expense of that would be astronomical...well, you don't do it all at once...not to mention, the expense of the effects of lines that are knocked down and people without heat and water for a week, two weeks, etc. Down in Florida or the Carolinas...is there a code in place that homes now must be built on stilts or, with cinder blocks. I've seen homes built with Cinder blocks in the Bahamas that are still standing after hurricanes...there are things we could start doing...but, people think about money first, and cost efficence lastly....quick fixes and expense is first and foremost, and that is wrong and detremental in the long run.

Exactly right, and by allowing them to not pay taxes, yet vote, depleats the whole body of society....draining our systems, health care, hospitals being forced to shut down, b/c they again, have this sense of entitlement...which is a disgrace to all others in our nation that work hard every day for what they own, and still have to pay taxes. It also excludes them from having to serve in our military. It also causes division among people...breeds hate and disrespect. Yanno, immigration could work, if everyone would work together...as a member of the community....but to have all these illegal immigrants now in the hundreds of thousands, all getting a free ride...is it any wonder, our entire nation is becoming strapped and chaotic.
Crime, crime has become a big offspring of all this...how can we put someone in jail for theft, when politicians get away with it, and when you leave illegals in this country, you not only make us vulnerable to a take over, but you loose respect for laws...respect for those who are in public office.
Just last winter, we had a slight snow storm....it is the first time in my entire life, that Allentown, PA shut down on I-78. People were stranded in their cars over night...why? Because we keep cutting costs and the effect of that, is less and less highway maintenance....less police....less emergency serves....yet, if you tell people that, they deny it...and all these services were not able to get out there and help those people stranded...and Gov. Rendell smiles and said, someone has to answer for this...well, then, why not go right to the top. Yes, he took the blame, but, it doesn't make it better....people forget...and all they want is peace...they don't want to know that they're leaders are corrupt.
Look at Philly...and the crime...the mayor took actual police reports and got rid of them...so that people would come to Philly...when he was found out...nothing Happened, and to boot, the people voted him back in...that speaks volumns about the mentality of our country.
Where are you getting the ideas that illegals can vote and are in the democratic party? Please don't make a blur between the lines of an illegal immigrant and a legal one. Last I checked, if you were illegal, you could not vote.
You might want to check again. All it takes to register to vote is to check a box on a driver license form or register with any of the people waiting outside of super markets with voter registration forms. They aren’t required to check ID’s and they don’t.
Also those in power have continued to stop any effort to require ID checks at voting places.
Undo some idiotic taxes and a 7% or 8% return would absolutely become appealing once again.
Wouldn't matter. The problem with basic R&D is that the majority of it ends up providing no return on investment at all. Dead ends. In a world of hits and misses, the misses far outnumber the hits. But the hits are what drive the future. By declining to do basic R&D projects at all, you get zero hits out of the process, but that's what the short-term profit motive demands that one do. Without some definable, attainable light at the end of the tunnel, you are powerfully encouraged to go to whatever your alternative rate of return model happens to be.
It would be well and good enough to expand on existing corporate R&D tax benefits, but the for-profit model is the wrong venue for basic R&D to begin with. Whether the work itself is carried out in government labs, university labs, or corporate labs, public funding of basic R&D is necessary if socially optimal amounts of the stuff are to be produced.

Got any verifiable specifics to back that up? Keep in mind that you cannot vote anywhere unless you are first registered to vote there...
Yes, we the people have allowed this...we have not progressed as a nation, we have declined...due to greed and an ever growing individualism.
Individualism is not the problem - in this country we have actually moved away from any type of self-reliance to a greater dependecy and expectation that the government should take care of more and more of our needs. The real problem is selfishness, greed, and on the part of politicians on both sides, hunger for power and control. We are fat, bloated, and lazy as a nation. We have the richest "poor" people in the world, people with a car, cell phone, DVD player, LCD TV that would be affluent by many countries' standards. We have a middle class that needs to have the newest McMansion, or the newest granite counter tops, or stainless steel appliances, or the newest $100 American Girl doll, etc. We have the ruling elites who are perfectly happy to sell-out this country in order to placate the shareholders. At the same time, we expect the federal government to help subsidize our lifestyle by taking money from someone else through their confiscatory police powers - we expect them to give us "free" health insurance, paid family leave, "earned income" tax credits, free day care or preschool, etc., so that we can continue to buy the latest trinkets sold to us by China. This is not increased individualism, it is increased dependency, born out of greed at all levels of society, and that will be the downfall of this country.
