On the Right they might out of ignorance or ideology.

But if you think we should continue these programs, vote in ways to promote and continue them. And then they will be there into perpetuity funded by some combination of taxation, personal payments and/or deficit spending.

Our Federal Gov't has no need to save or invest in its own sovereign currency.
It DOES have the fiduciary responsibilty to steward tax dollars responsibly, and particualrly by using SS and Medicare tax revenue for their intended purpose. It HASN'T done so.

The federal government CANNOT be trusted to tax for and implement any over-reaching national initiative. They've failed at every attempt ever made to do so.

Anything program or spending connected to or funded by the General Fund is not limited by Federal Tax revenues. That includes SS, Medicare and 101 other Federal programs like the Military.

So these programs can only run out of money if we try too hard balancing budgets.

We're specifically taxed separately to fund SS and Medicaid. That's why the tax was enacted to begin with, not to add to the General Fund.

I don't disagree. But look through the years and all the changes, and it should become apparent that in essence payroll taxes are like most any other non-sequestered Federal tax. This is some of the smoke, mirrors and confusion of politics and money.

That's the federal government's fault. They misappropriated the funds, which is why they CANNOT be trusted to tax for and implement any over-reaching national initiative. They've failed at every attempt ever made to do so.

It is our 'fault' and the 'fault' of our elected officials.

You might consider this a detriment to SS and Medicare. I think it helps guarantee them.

It's our fault for ever trusting the federal government to tax for and implement any over-reaching national initiative. They've failed at every attempt ever made to do so. Why anyone would ever trust them with anything further is beyond me. It's sheer stupidity.

What has the federal government totally screwed up? SS, Medicare, the war on drugs, the war on poverty, immigration, HUD's completely unrealistic Affordable Lending mandates that nearly wiped out our financial system... Need I go on?
