St Partricks Day Origin was in Ireland as a religious celebration. Black people get castigated for the "African" in African-American. We are told that we should be just "American". Hence, why are not the Irish told to jettison their link to their Irish roots and past...as opposed to it being embraced and celebrated?

Can you remember any day other than St. Pat's Day, a person of even partial Irish decent calls themselves Irish? I can't and I have an Irish, many generations back, ancestory.

St Pat's is indeed a religious celebration. And like Christmas, Easter, Halloween, San Genarro, etc, it has morphed into something celebratory and secular.

Last time I looked (last month) Black History Month was still there and still going strong.

Grow up and stop whining like a baby. Ain't nobody castigating you.

It's not about YOU.

Hell yeah....I hear about "the Irish" all the time when the issue of blacks in America is talked about. We are always then told the tribulations of "Irish Americans". I mean....if we were truly all "Americans" then there would have been no means of creating a distinction with a difference....as in the case of Irish American or African American.

Ok. I won't dispute your experience. However, mine is different.

There is nothing inherently wrong with people celebrating their heritage. The only problem is when others complain when you do the same or if you get upset with others for not joining in.
