Based on the results of the November 2014 election, in which Republicans increased their control of States (governorships and legislatures) as well as winning the Senate, and increasing their power in the House, this is delusional.

But the question I have is how long could this group vote together in the same party. Over time could racial relations between blacks and Hispanics worsen? (which in many parts of the country aren't great already) Also Wouldn't overtime Hispanic and Asian immigrants see themselves as less of an immigrant group, and more see themselves as more "white" as they more up the economic ladder? I may be a Liberal but I don't see any collation of groups of voters lasting forever in any party which isn't a good or bad thing.

So any ideas of what could cause this coalition to break away?? Or what the demographics of both Democrats and Republicans would look like in the near future??
I doubt it will break away because the unethical leftists have no problems using lies and misrepresentation to hold their coalition together. If liberals had any principles, then your concerns would be valid because your observations about the diverging interests of the various groups on the left is correct. Since liberals don't have any principles, this will likely not be a very significant problem for them. The contradictions between their various constituencies is not a new phenomenon and historically the liberals have dealt with it by simply using whatever dishonesty is necessary to blame the contradictions on the right wing instead of accepting blame for their own actions.

For example, the leftists have fairly successfully pushed the narrative that it is Republicans' fault that unemployment is higher amongst the black community, even as the leftists simultaneously push for amnesty for Hispanic illegals despite the CBO report that this amnesty is a driving force for unemployment in the black community.

"The trendline is for the USA to become more and more liberal and socialist."

Based on the last 2 elections where the repubs have GAINED, to record levels, in state and federal legislatures, I seriously DOUBT your claim.

Since when have the "news" outlets, pundits, & politicians been on the side of hard working, responsible, law abiding citizens? There is no so called democratic coalition as much as they want you to believe this. The election of 2014 proves that without a shadow of a doubt.

In 2014 the DNC consists of:
  • Their hard core base.
  • 95% of African Americans
  • Unions
Hispanics don't vote as a block. Most are hard working, responsible, don't live on welfare, and have a lot to lose under policies supported by Obama.

Immigrants don't have the right to vote. So they are irrelevant. If and when they become citizens they will have it figured out too.

The youth are notorious about not voting. This was proven, yet again, in 2014. And many are disillusioned at the Obama/DNC administration for policies that have saddled them with personal debt and societial debt which they will be paying for the rest of their working lives.

My advice, turn off the MSM. There is no real relevant news there anymore.

Vote regularly I said. Voting once every four years (maybe, if there's a charismatic black guy on the ballot) isn't very regular.

TRENDLINES, as in the last 30 - 40 - 50 years. One election, where the Democrats and President Obama did overkill with the lefty-meme and paid for it, does not mean a lot.

Uh huh, and the Democrats have controlled most of the major cities and major population bases for how long??? Places like California are just going to be more and more in the Dems pockets. Then throw in places like Iowa and Colorado, wahlah, there you have it!

Presidential elections are different from all others. The de-facto coalition only applies to Presidential elections. Even in Presidential years, Democrats and Republicans still lose or gain seats in all other political offices.

How long it the rough coalition lasts depends entirely on the Republican party. Once the Republicans quit demeaning minorities, begin supporting women's issues, and start showing they are fit to govern the country for the common good of all, not just themselves, much of the solidity in the coalition will begin to disappear.

Folks of all colors, religions, sexes, and languages are all conservative or progressive. That's human nature. Right now, there are a big bunch of over-riding issues that over ride those natural tendencies; when one party is willing to address those issues and the other is not only makes it easy for the party that acknowledges those issues.

Most voters don't have to love the person they vote for. All the want is some recognition of their problems. They don't even have to be assured their positions will prevail. All they want is the recognition the problems exist and will be considered seriously.

Right now, they are not even getting that much from the Republican party. The GOP has it's members who are the exceptions, but exceptions don't make the party any more favorable; only a solid platform that includes those issues will make any progress in breaking the coalition up.

If this forum is any indicator of the current conservative thoughts on this, it looks like the Republicans have squandered another 4 years they could have used building some good will in all those minorities.

I think if the GOP gets out of their anti-immigrant positions and turns down some of their right wing religious rhetoric, they could have a real shot at making inroads among groups like Hispanics and young voters. GOP economic conservatism is popular among many young people, but we get turn off by the extreme right wing-nuts in their party.

We heard the same thing 8-10 years ago.

What you lefties fail to appreciate is that people on the average naturally get more conservative as they get older. Also, skin color does not guarantee party loyalty, except apparently among the black community.
